LOCAL NEWS:

An accident occurred at 6:27 Friday morning in Phelps County on Route O just north of the Dent/Phelps county line. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Dodge Durango driven by 20-year old Andrew Wilson of Licking was traveling northbound, crossed the center line and off the left side of the roadway. The Durango returned to the roadway and Wilson started braking, crossed the center line of the roadway again, ran off the right side of the roadway and impacted the ditch and overturned twice. A passenger, 21-year old Christopher Clark of Licking, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the Phelps County ambulance. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint. The Dodge Durango sustained extensive damage and was towed by C&C Towing.

The Dent County Commission met Thursday morning for their regular meeting at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell indicated that there were no reports of damage from the storms last Wednesday night, but crews were out checking roads for damages and fallen trees or limbs. Purcell said workers were fixing an electrical problem on truck #117, and District 1 will have a new road worker intern effective April 3rd. Nathan Cook, who is soon to be graduating from Linn Tech, is an honor roll student, possesses a Class A CDL license and he is experienced on heavy equipment. The internship will last four weeks. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said he was contacted about a tree over a road being knocked down from winds out in the Short Bend area as well as trees in the road Wednesday night. The National Weather Service stated reports from Troop I and the Dent County Sheriff’s Department reported a home suffered heavy wind damage in the area of Highway 19 and Dent County Road 3340. Another home in the area also had damage as did a barn. It was later determined that it was an F-1 tornado that hit. Larson stated Intercounty Electric workers were working on downed electric lines from the storm and had already moved the trees to the side of the road so people could get by. Larson wanted to send out his appreciation of the job the Intercounty Electric workers did in clearing off the road of trees and limbs. Larson said the Dent County crews would be down in the area to help cleanup more of the debris from county roads 3330 and 3336. Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles reported on the PHA hearing he attended last Wednesday at the MRPC offices and again wants to remind anyone who gets HUD assistance to please read their contracts and abide by the terms of the agreement or your contract may be terminated and you will lose your HUD assistance. He also wanted to remind first responders to submit their annual training surveys by May 15th. For more information about training classes, first responders may contact Tammy Snodgrass at 573-265-2993. Skiles said he would be attending a Meramec Community Enhancement corporation meeting. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone her office will be open until 5:00 today in her office for absentee voting. At the last meeting, the commission put out for culvert bids for the Road and Bridge Department. Bids will be due April 13th at 10:00 in the morning. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
