The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the courthouse. In the road reports, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading only would be done on Dent County Roads 6220, 6230 and 6490. He went on to say that grading would be done on county road 4210 as well as material would be hauled to county roads 4210 and 4215. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2380, 4050 and 5340 and one man would be cutting brush on county road 2370. He went on to say that material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 4050, 4330, 5340 and if time permitted to county road 3330. Larson stated road pipes would be cleaned out on Dent County Road 4050 and a road sign would be replaced again on county road 3300. Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles reported that he attended the Salem Area Community Betterment Association meeting Monday night. At that meeting it was reported that Trivia night was a success and they are preparing for the Farmer’s Market to open in May. It was also reported at that meeting that SACBA will be spending $1,400 for a beautification project in town. Skiles noted that another informational hearing regarding the proposed jail project will be held Thursday, March 30th in the same location. He went on to say that the South Central County Commissioners meeting would be today in Houston. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that bills were being approved. She went on to say that that last day to absentee vote for the April 4th election in her office is April 3rd at 5:00 pm. The last day for a mail out ballot is March 29th. Sample ballots will be printed in the Salem News in the March 21st and March 28th editions.  Purcell brought up Senate Bill #457 that involved the State relinquishing maintenance and upkeep on “ALL Lettered” roads in the County, thus making them the counties duty to do the upkeep and maintenance, but still allowing the State to collect the revenue associated with those roads. The Dent County Commission agreed to closely monitor the outcome of that proposal. Bids were then opened at 10:00 on the purchase of 2 used trucks for the Road and Bridge Department. A total of four bids were received and after discussion, Commissioner Larson made a motion to accept the 2013 F 150 Regular Cab 4X4 bid of $11,300 from Heavin Motors. Commissioner Purcell seconded the motion and was agreed on by all three commissioners. The Commission decided after more discussion, they will make a decision on purchasing another truck at another time. Prosecutor Andrew Curley came in to discuss a piece of property that Wanda Parks is working on, owned by Max Inman and his wife. The Commission was asked to do a quit claim deed and stated they would like to see a survey as well as know the legal description before making a decision. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
