An accident happened in Franklin County Saturday afternoon at 4:22 on eastbound Interstate 44 just west of the 244.6 mile marker that left an couple from Steelville with moderate injuries. According to the highway patrol report, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven eastbound by 37-year old Daniel Kreamalmyer of Steelville went off the left side of the roadway, struck the median cable, and overturned back toward the highway where the vehicle landed on the Interstate on its wheels. Daniel Kreamalmyer and 25-year Brittney Kreamalmyer both suffered moderate injuries and were transported to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis the by the St. Clair Ambulance. Brittney was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident while Daniel was not. The Silverado had extensive damages was removed from the scene by Hoffman’s Towing.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of February. During the month, they wrote five equipment repair orders, eight summons to appear in court, 38 warning tickets, and 27 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 13 accidents, two burglaries, one report of disorderly conduct, six reports of domestic violence, nine reports of driving while revoked and/or suspended, two reports of driving while license expired and/or without a valid license, one report of forgery, one report of identity theft, one report of leaving the scene of an accident and one report of a lost and/or stolen license plate. The department also investigated three reports of property damage, one report of rape, 15 reports of stealing, two reports of trespassing, and two 96 hour commitments. They also investigated one report of possession of a controlled substance, one report of possession of heroin, one report of possession of marijuana, and three reports of possession of drug paraphernalia.  The police department received 1,048 calls for service during the month, handled 120 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 44 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 20 hours in court testifying, eight hours as court bailiff and conducted one death investigation. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 7,639 miles and arrested 26 males and 7 females during the month of February.

An accident occurred at 8:36 pm on Thursday, February 16th on Highway 32 and 19 in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 1999 GMC Yukon driven by Jacob Conaway of Salem was traveling east on highway 32 and turning north onto highway 19. A 2004 Nissan Sentra driven by Jessica Lanham of Salem was traveling west on highway 32. The GMC had a yellow flashing light and the Nissan had a green arrow. The GMC proceeded to turn and collided with the Nissan. Lanham suffered minor injuries and a passenger in the GMC also suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by ambulance. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene.

Private Land Conservationist Cody Roberts and the Missouri Department of Conservation are offering a class on prescribed burns and how to use this management tool to improve your land. The Dent County Prescribed Burn Workshop will be held at the Salem Community Center@ The Armory on March 14th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and there is no charge to attend. Some things that will be taught at the workshop are safety tips, how the weather affects the burn, fire behavior, burn plans and site prep for burning. Applications are being accepted for the second annual University of Missouri Division of Animal Sciences Youth Leadership Academy. Twenty high school students with an interest in agriculture and the livestock industry may attend the May 31st through June 3rd event at MU’s Animal Science Research Center. Students receive personalized instruction and interaction with counselors, professors and livestock industry leaders during the four day event. They also learn leadership skills, tour leading agricultural operations and businesses, and discuss current issues regarding livestock production. Friday night, Joel Edmundson scored the game-winner with 19 seconds left and Vladimir Tarasenko and Paul Stastny each had a goal and an assist to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Ryan Reaves also scored for the Blues and goalie Jake Allen had 23 saves. Then on Saturday night, Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice and Alexander Steen had a goal and an assist as the St. Louis Blues beat the New York Islanders 4-3. Patrik Berglund also scored and Jaden Schwartz had two assists as the Blues won their fourth straight game. Carter Hutton made 21 saves. The Blues travel to Los Angeles tonight to face the Kings starting at 8:30 on KSMO.

The St. Louis Cardinals battled to ties over the weekend, tying the game in the 9th inning Saturday to earn a 1-1 tie against the Atlanta Braves in game that went 10 innings. Then on Sunday, the Cardinals blew a 9-5 9th inning lead and settled for a 9-9 tie with the Miami Marlins. The Cardinals will play Houston today. The Cardinals are 11-4-3 during the spring.

A seven-run 7th inning propelled the Cleveland Indians to a 7-6 win over the Royals Saturday who out hit the Indians, 12-8. Then on Sunday, a four-run top of the 2nd inning by the Dodgers off Nathan Karns led to Los Angeles win over the Royals by the score of 5-4. The Royals will play the Colorado Rockies today. They are 7-8 in the Desert League..

Funeral services for Betty Pace of Salem, age 80, will be held today at 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held prior to services at 11:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Tommie Bass of Salem, age 81, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held prior to services at 11:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services for Betty Logan of Anutt, age 89, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the Anutt Community Church. Visitation will be today from 5:00 until 8:00 at James and Gahr Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Anutt Community Church.

A graveside service for Joanne Love Triplett of El Segundo, California, age 84, will be held at 1:00 Saturday afternoon at the Berry Hill Cemetery in Salem. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.
