The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams reported that the sales tax receipt to general revenue for March was $81,214.33, which was up from the 2016 amount of $76,628.24. She noted that the year-to-date amount is up $8,619.85 or 4.29%. Williams also noted that the Road and Bridge sales tax was $34,814.99, which nearly mirrored the 2016 amount of $34,071.52. She added that the Road and Bridge year-to-date is up by $5,652.39, which is an increase of 6.22%. Frank Hobson was in to talk about 4-wheelers rutting the gravel and driving carelessly, as well as speeding on Dent County Road 2150. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that he would talk to Sheriff Bob Wells about the situation. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that materials would be added to and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4160 and 4245, while grading only would be done on county roads 2440, 6220 and 6245. He went on to say that materials would be added to county road 6255 and that a crew was doing ditch work and clearing box culverts on county roads 4122 and 5080. Purcell noted that the commissioners and road crews would be monitoring the weekend storm situation. Larson reported that in District Two grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2530, 2540, 5330 and 5335 while materials would be added to county road 4060. He said that truck #116 hoist had broken damaging air lines so it had to be towed in for repairs to take place. Larson noted that a man was screening brown rock and that on Friday he would be attending an MRDC meeting in St. James. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported on Wednesday he attended the County Commissioners Board Meeting in Jefferson City. He said that the Board had received good reports from the February training sessions and the legislation was moving slowly, particularly in the Senate. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that bills were being approved by the Commissioners for payment. She noted that her office verified that the Collector and Assessor balanced on all monthly collections, add-ons and abatements for February and that the Commissioners had reviewed those reports. Curley noted that public testing of the electronic voting equipment would be Wednesday, March 22nd at 9:00 in the Collector’s office. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning in the Courthouse and it is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors met for their March meeting Tuesday evening at the fire station. The Board reviewed and approved the minutes from their February meeting, reviewed and approved bills and also reviewed their budget and the calendar of upcoming events. The monthly reimbursement was presented and showed a total of 29 calls for the month of February that included; two calls for structure fires, 10 calls for brush fires, one call for a car fire, two calls for landing zones, eight calls for first responders, two calls for vehicle accidents, one call for mutual aid, one call for haz mat and two calls were for training. The total calls year-to-date are 70. In new business, Fire Chief Brad Nash presented a new idea to the Board for truck replacement and that was to purchase a used truck that would more than likely cut the price in half or more and allow the department to rotate the fleet more frequently. Nash was asked to get more information and to also check into possible grants and then report back to the Board. Nash then reported that lights have been purchased to repair and to outfit the new truck and should be installed starting next week. The Board then set their next meeting for Tuesday, April 4th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm and the meeting was then adjourned.
