An accident occurred at 8:00 Tuesday night in Dent County on Highway 72 about a half mile east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 20-year old Austin Morago was traveling eastbound on highway 72. The Chevrolet Cavalier crossed the roadway, running off the left side of the road before striking an embankment and overturning. Morago suffered minor injuries and was transported by the Salem ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Cavalier was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, probation violations, a female juvenile threatening to harm herself. On Wednesday, April 5th at 6:50 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of South Dilworth in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown stole a 2008 Honda TRX400 EX all-terrain vehicle valued at $3,500 from a trailer in the yard of the residence. On Wednesday, April 5th at 2:00 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Upper Elementary in reference to a female juvenile threatening to harm herself. The report revealed the juvenile had been sexually abused by a juvenile male. The report is under investigation. That afternoon at 2:30, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to the fraudulent use of a credit card. The report revealed that someone unknown used the credit card account of another to make numerous purchases valued at $2,231.07. Early that evening at 5:22, an officer was detailed to the Misdemeanor Probation Services in reference to a probation violation. An officer took custody of a 29-year old Salem male and transported him to the Dent County Jail where he was incarcerated for 5 days shock time as a result of a violation of his terms of probation. Just a few minutes later at 5:30, an officer responded to the Misdemeanor Probation Services in reference to a probation violation. An officer took custody of a 42-year old Salem  female and transported her to Dent County Jail where she was incarcerated for 15 days shock time as a result of a violation of her terms of probation. The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) and Phelps County Public Housing Agency (PHA) Family Self-Sufficiency program will host a free workshop April 26th in St. James on “Tackling the Tough Skills.” This workshop is a reschedule from March, due to illness. This workshop is the third in a series of five and will cover communication. It will be held from 10:00 am to noon at Phelps County PHA, 4 Industrial Drive in St. James, with Christy Saylor, Missouri Ozarks Community Action (MOCA) county projects coordinator, presenting. Workshops are offered at no cost to the participant. For more information or to RSVP, contact Savannah Vandegriffe at (573) 265-4200 ext. 132. Free training classes are a part of MRPC and PHA's efforts to help prepare families by making them aware of the resources available to assist with self-sufficiency. Each participant who attends will receive a $25 Wal-Mart gift card, as long as they meet income qualifications. MRPC provides staffing to the Phelps County Public Housing Agency that provides rental assistance to over 750 low-income families in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps (outside the city limits of Rolla) and Washington counties. The PHA also offers the Family Self-Sufficiency Program where clients develop a goal-oriented, five-year plan that moves them toward self-sufficiency and independence from government programs.

The Salem Tiger Tennis Team beat Willow Springs Tuesday, 5 matches to 4 Tuesday to move to 5-2 on the year. They will be at Licking this afternoon at 4:00. The Salem Golf Team will play at Ava this morning 10:00.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will be at Ava this afternoon at 4:30 for another SCA contest. Salem enters the game with a 2-0 conference record and 7-0 on the year. You can hear the game today on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Tigers will host their annual Baseball tournament this weekend starting Friday night and lasting throughout the day on Saturday.

Stephen Piscotty had three hits, including a homer, and drove in a career-high five runs and Mike Leake pitched seven scoreless innings as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Washington Nationals 6-1 Wednesday, salvaging the finale of the three-game series. Leake is 1-1 on the year. The Cardinals have today off before facing the New York Yankees in a three game set starting Friday.

Andrew Triggs pitched six scoreless innings and Jed Lowrie drove in three runs as the Oakland Athletics continued their domination of the Kansas City Royals with an 8-3 victory Wednesday night. The Kansas City Royals will wrap up the three game series tonight against Oakland.

A busy night by goalie Jake Allen and an overtime goal by Joel Edmundson propelled the St. Louis Blues to a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday in the opener of their first-round Western Conference playoff series. The Blues will at Minnesota Friday night in Game 2 starting at 6:30 on ksmoradio.com ONLY.

Graveside services and interment for Edwin W. Howald of St. Louis, age 89, will be held today at 2:00 at the Lakewood Park Cemetery in Afton, Missouri. Visitation will be this morning from 10:00 to 11:30 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Sandra Lee (Williams) Sweeten of Rolla, age 71, will be held today at 2:00 at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of service. Memorials are suggested to the Rolla Animal Shelter.

Funeral services for John William Plank Jr. of Cook Station, age 78, will be Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time, with a Masonic Service at noon. Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Funeral services for Lorene Dunn of Washington, MO, formerly of Dillard, age 94, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time Saturday. Interment will be in the Sellers Cemetery in Dillard.

Memorial service for Raymond Bashline of Salem, age 77, will be held Saturday, at 2:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Salem. There will be no interment. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
