An accident occurred at 5:00 Tuesday morning in Dent County on country road 4200 about four miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report a 2005 Ford Freestar driven by 32-year old Douglas Hedrick of Salem was traveling westbound, ran off the left side of the roadway. The Ford Freestar struck a concrete post and a tree. Hedrick suffered minor injuries, was treated at the scene and refused to be transported. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Freestar sustained extensive damage and was towed by Schwartz Towing. The highway patrol was assisted by the Dent County Sheriff’s Office.

An accident occurred at 7:34 Monday night in Phelps County on I-44 eastbound at 171.8 mile marker. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Plymouth Voyager driven by 54-year old Henry Barba of Crocker was traveling eastbound and ran off the left side of the roadway. The Plymouth Voyager struck a guardrail and a rock embankment and then overturned. Barba suffered moderate injuries and was transported by EMS to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. A passenger, 32-year old Lea Barba suffered no injuries. The Plymouth Voyager was totaled and removed from the scene by Jacks Towing of St. Robert.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct a re-organizational meeting as well as their regular monthly meeting tomorrow at the boardroom beginning at 5:50 pm. After approval of the agenda, the Board will certify the election results and then swear in the newly elected members to the Board. Superintendent John McColloch will act as the temporary chairman in order for the Board to elect a new president and vice president. The new president will then preside over the election of a secretary and treasurer. The Board will elect an MSBA delegate and alternate and the Board will then move to their regular monthly meeting. McColloch will give a facilities update, followed by reports from principals on events and happenings at each of the buildings in the district. During new business, the Board will set the tuition for the 2017-2018 school year and then address a project graduation bus request. The Board will then consider an IT position, support staff employee manual changes, 2017A MSBA updates and a detailed engineering study agreement. Following resignations, the Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The re-organizational and regular monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff's Department has released a number of reports. On March 17th, deputies responded to a traffic accident near the intersection of County Road 2240 and County Road 2260. While deputies checked to make sure everyone involved hadn’t sustain any injuries, a male subject was found attempting to conceal himself inside one of the vehicles. The deputy knew him to have warrants and he was subsequently arrested. The male, 20-year old Melvin Arganbright IV of Salem, was transported to the Dent County Jail on several misdemeanor warrants and posted bond. On March 19th, a report was received for a four-wheeler stolen from the 3700 block of Highway EE. The four-wheeler is described as a green in color 2015 Honda FourTrax four wheel drive. This report is still under investigation. That same day, deputies were sent to a residence in the 800 block of County Road 2240 in reference to a theft. After an investigation, it was discovered that a furnace system, valued at $8,000, had been stolen from the residence. This report is still under investigation. On March 21st, deputies responded to the 200 block of County Road 3273 for a report of a domestic dispute. While entering the residence, deputies could smell an odor of burnt marijuana. After a short investigation, several marijuana pipes, a grinder, and rolling papers were located. As a result of the investigation, 25-year old Chelsea Black of Salem was arrested for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Another female that was located at the residence, 37-year old Ranauta Register of Salem, was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for the original charge of animal abuse. Both were transported to the Dent County Jail. Black was fingerprinted, issued a summons, and released. Register was incarcerated after failing to post bond. On March 24th, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Iron Street near Second Street. As a result, 36-year old Charles Werline of Licking was arrested for driving without having a valid license.  He was fingerprinted, issued a summons, and released. That same day, deputies traveled to the Salem Memorial District Hospital after receiving information that a subject that was there had a warrant. After a short investigation, 22-year old Gregory Brooks of Salem was arrested on a failure to appear warrant on the original charge of driving while being intoxicated. The Salem Tiger Tennis Team beat Rolla Monday, 6-3 to move to 4-2 on the year. They will be at Licking Thursday afternoon at 4:00. The Salem Golf Team will play in the St. James Tournament today at 8:00 this morning.

Daniel Murphy had four hits and drove in five runs to lift his average to .472 as the hot-hitting Washington Nationals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-3 on Tuesday. The Cardinals will take on the Nationals at 2:10 this afternoon on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals had Tuesday off and they will be back in action tonight as they will host the Oakland Athletics at 7:15.

The St. Louis Blues will be at Minnesota in the 1st round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to face the Wild starting at 8:00 on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Laura Jane Studdard of Sullivan, age 81, will be held today at 1:00 at the Pea Ridge Pentecostal Church in Pea Ridge. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 until service time today. Interment will be in the Reedville Cemetery in Pea Ridge. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Graveside services and interment for Edwin W. Howald of St. Louis, age 89, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 at the Lakewood Park Cemetery in Afton, Missouri. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 to 11:30 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Sandra Lee (Williams) Sweeten of Rolla, age 71, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 noon until time of service. Memorials are suggested to the Rolla Animal Shelter.

Funeral services for John William Plank JR of Cook Station, age 78, will be Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time, with a Masonic Service at noon. Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Funeral services for Lorene Dunn of Washington, MO, formerly of Dillard, age 94, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time Saturday. Interment will be in the Sellers Cemetery in Dillard.

Memorial service for Raymond Bashline of Salem, age 77, will be held Saturday, at 2:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Salem. There will be no interment. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
