The Salem Police Department released reports involving a shoplifter, theft, assault, theft of checks and forgery and a traffic violation. On Sunday, March 26th at 5:48 in the morning, an officer was sent to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The report led to the arrest of a 31-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $60. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Monday morning, March 27th at 9:45, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of South Louise in reference to a theft. The report revealed someone unknown stole a black 1987 Toyota 4x4 pickup valued at $3,000 from the yard of a residence. Early that evening at 6:16, an officer responded to a residence in the 300 block of south Hickory in reference to an assault. The report revealed a 31-year old Salem female had assaulted a 40-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that night at 8:49, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to an assault. The report revealed a 38-year old Salem male was threatening and had assaulted a 22-year old Salem male. On Tuesday afternoon, March 28th at 4:07, an officer was dispatched to Town and Country Bank in reference to the theft of checks and forgery. The report revealed someone had stolen checks from another and forged those checks making purchases totaling $643.57. Late that night at 11:31, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem male for driving while having his license revoked and on an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on the warrant pending a court appearance. On Wednesday, March 29th at 3:00 in the afternoon, an officer located a 25-year old Salem male near Louise Street and Highway 32 who had an active arrest warrant from the State of Missouri. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their April meeting Tuesday evening at the fire station. After approval of the minutes from their March meeting, the Board reviewed and approved bills, conducted a budget review as well as a review of their calendar of upcoming events. The monthly reimbursement report was presented and showed a total of 26 calls for the month that included: five calls for structure fires, one call for a flue fire, 10 calls for brush fires, one call for a landing zone, two calls for first responders, one call for a vehicle accident, one call for mutual aid, two calls for fire alarms, two calls for training and one other call for mutual aid with the Sheriff’s Department for a missing person. The total calls year to date is 96. In old business, a motion was made to accept resolution 2017-4-1 allowing the Dent County Fire Board to enter into legal services with the John Williams Group LC. The legal services agreement was signed. The Board held the declaration of election results as there were two positions open with only the two incumbents David Greenshields and John McColloch having filed. The Oath of Office of new Directors was given and the first regular meeting of the Board was conducted. The Secretary presided over the election of officers where Craig Smith was elected as Chair/President and Dave Wells was elected as Secretary/Treasurer. Fire Chief Brad Nash reported that he was looking into other means of acquiring money for repair of the Department. Currently he is looking into COP (Certificate of Participation) and bonds. The Board then set their next meeting for Tuesday, May 2nd at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm and the meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem Tiger Baseball make-up game from Monday's rain out at Thayer was postponed again due to wet grounds. The game has been rescheduled for April 26th at 3:30 at Thayer. Salem is scheduled to host the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles in SCA play this afternoon at 4:30. If played, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. The game will also be streamed on fidelitylocal6.com and later shown on Fidelity local 6.

The Salem Golf Team will host their Invitational this morning at the Spring Creek Golf Club starting at 9:00. The Salem Tigers Tennis Team will be at Mountain View to face the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles today starting at 4:00.

Adult Co-Ed Kickball Leagues are forming and those teams will be playing on Thursdays in May at the main City Park in Salem. There is a maximum of 11 players on a team with a minimum of 8. The cost is $125 and all players must be 16 years of age and over. The St. Louis Cardinal game with Chicago Wednesday was postponed and rescheduled for today at the same time, 12:45 game start and 11:50 pre-game show on KSMO Radio.

Miguel Sano hit a three-run triple and Eduardo Escobar added a three-run homer in a six-run seventh inning as the Minnesota Twins cruised to a 9-1 win against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. The Royals will start Jason Hammel today against Minnesota RHP Kyle Gibson.

The St. Louis Blues will be at Florida tonight to face the Panthers with the game starting at 6:30. The Blues are three points away from clinching 3rd place in the Central Division.

Funeral services for Gilbert (Butch) Durham of Salem, age 66, will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held today from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Raymond Lawrence Terrill of Ozark, age 36, will be held Friday at 6:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 4:00 until service time. Memorials may be made to the Wilson Mortuary for funeral expenses.

Funeral Mass for Claudine Becker of Steelville, age 88, will be held Saturday at 10:00 at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Steelville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Bill Pruett of Salem, age 71, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time with a Masonic Service at noon. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.

Funeral services for Joy Marie Dingley of Cuba, age 85, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
