The City of Salem Board of Aldermen met Monday night at the City Hall Council Chambers. In unfinished business, the board approved Bill #3320 that sets the rental user fees for the old City Hall Auditorium as well establishing a fee for liquor, if used at the facility. The Bill also included no rental fees for city residents if the auditorium was used during regular business hours, but regular rental fees would be applicable for residents living outside the city during regular business hours. The bill also provides caterer requirements that must be met if alcohol is served by them, or requirements by the patrons if the alcohol will not served by a caterer. City Administrator Ray Walden wanted to remind everyone donations are still being accepted for the new city K-9 and for the fireworks to be held in July. To make donations you can visit www.cfozarks.com/dent. He said the 100-Acre Rally in the Woods will be held March 17th and 18th. The Parc Expose will be held in downtown Salem that Saturday morning, March 18th. Walden said 5,801 participants used the Salem Community Center@The Armory, plus he reported on the failed sound system at the city hall auditorium for the Miss Salem Contest. He said someone had spilled soda in the system. He said the city will check out repairing or replacing the system, or looking at a possible donation that was once discussed. Mayor Brad Nash reported a community group is interested in submitting the paperwork to try to include the old middle school in the National Historic Preservation Society. The board approved Bill #3326 that allows the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission to file applications and waivers on behalf of the City of Salem to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. In new business, City Clerk Mary Happel said some city ordinances still exist that require the alderman to approve the issuance of liquor licenses in the city even though this duty had been removed from their hands years ago. City Attorney William Camm Seay said he will get with Happel and correct the oversight with a new ordinance to remove the aldermen from having to get involved with this perfunctory task. The board then went into closed session.
