The Dent County Commission met for its regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell some parts of southern Dent County received about 2.25 inches of rain Friday night into Saturday, but the road crews did not receive any calls over the weekend for downed limbs or flooded roads. Crews are out checking today to see if any roads sustained damages from the rain. He said another crew would be out replacing stolen road number signs and other workers are making necessary repairs to equipment. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson did report his district received two calls for trees down with the largest on Dent County Road 3160 that was across the road and it was removed. He said men were checking low water crossings to make sure there was no debris buildup. He also indicated crews would be servicing trucks #118 and #122, and replacing a pin on a busted tailgate on truck #116. Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles said he would be presiding over a PHA hearing Wednesday morning before attending a Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee meeting Wednesday afternoon. He said the Dent County Jail proposal open house will be held again Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Judicial Building in the Associate Courtroom. Shive-Hattery lead architect Steve Davis will be in attendance along with Sheriff Bob Wells and the commissioners. People are welcome to come in and ask questions about the proposed new jail facility and you can also get tours of the old jail during that time. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that last date to mail out an absentee ballot is Wednesday and her office will be open Saturday morning from 8:00 until noon for absentee voters. She also said the last date to vote absentee for the April election will be Monday, April 3rd until 5:00 at her office. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The City of Salem Park and Recreation Board will be conducting a meeting tonight at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory beginning at 7:00 pm. In old business the Board will have a grant update and a soccer update. In new business the Board will discuss the baseball/softball field protocol and fees for swim lessons as well as field rental. The Board will then talk about the Al Brown field lighting and concessions. Baseball and Kickball signups will be discussed. The Board will then set a schedule for the City Pool opening as well as events. The Board will address any other business that may come before the Board. The City of Salem Park Board meeting is open to the public.

Naturally Meramec Consortium (NMC), a group of local agriculture, tourism and culinary businesses working to grow by finding ways to collectively market and use each other’s products and services, will be hosting a “speed-date” night April 25th, where buyers and sellers can meet, talk and connect locally produced products and services. Producers and/or potential buyers of agriculture, tourism and/or culinary goods and services are invited to attend this “speed-date” event from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Heartland Farms, 8289 North Service Road West, near Bourbon. Local producers will have an opportunity to display and discuss their products and business with several potential buyers during a one-on-one “speed-date style” presentation. Following the speed-date event, buyers and producers will have the opportunity to network in the evening. Buyers will also have the opportunity to increase the number of local products and services to pass on to their customers. This event is intended for commercial buyers, not individual consumers. Deadline for registration is April 10. Forms can be mailed to MRPC, emailed to Connie Willman or dropped off at 4 Industrial Drive, St. James MO 65559. Those businesses that participate in both buying and selling should submit both forms, but will need to have more than one person at the event to represent both functions. The Salem Baseball Tigers baseball game with Licking today was POSTPONED due to wet grounds. No make up date has been announced.

The Salem Tigers Tennis Team will be at Houston today at 4:00. The Salem Golf Team will host their Open today at 4:00, and the Salem Track team will be in Cuba today at 3:30.

Jason Vargus pitched seven strong innings and Brandon Moss homered for the second straight day, a three run shot, as the Royals beat Oakland, 10-3. The Royals will take on the White Sox today.

Carlos Martinez had a hit and and an RBi and pitched five solid innings for his opening day warm-up as St. Louis beat Houston, 3-2. The Cardinals will face the Mets this afternoon.

Jaden Schwartz scored two goals, Vladamir Tarasenko added his 36th of the season and the Blues beat Arizona, 4-1. Alex Petrangelo also scored for the Blues who will be in Arizona Wednesday night at 8:30 on KSMO Radio.

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Team Ropers Brady Hagler of Salem and Dalton Fuhrman of Bronson, KS placed 6th overall in the event at the 36th Annual Fort Scott Kansas Community College at the spring rodeo. The Golden Norsemen riders competed against schools in the Central Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. The NEO team will compete this Friday at Garden City, Kansas.

Funeral services for Delma W. Smith of Salem, age 87, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Funeral services for Joan (Heitman) Wolfe will be held Wednesday at 1:30 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 11:00 that morning until service time. Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery in Rolla.

Funeral arrangements for Keith Knudson of Rolla, age 57, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday at the James and Gahr Mortuary Chapel of Rolla. Interment will be in the Cavaness Cemetery in Licking.

Funeral services for Ronal “Ronnie” Mason of Viburnum, age 76, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Friday. Interment will be in the Lower Indian Creek Cemetery in Viburnum. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Viburnum.

Memorial visitation for Sally Ann Elwood of Salem, age 61, will be held Saturday from 11:00 to 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. There will be no interment. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Womens Auxiliary.

Graveside services for Vernon Earl Ray Sr. of Salem, age 70, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Patterson Cemetery and a Celebration of Life at 3:00 at the Wilson Family Center in Salem. Interment will be in the Patterson Cemetery.
