The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said Dent County Roads 2470 and 6230 were down to one-lane due to water damage and debris. He said crews would be out checking for downed trees and limbs from the high winds Saturday; and as soon as the rain stops, they will be checking roads for any water damage or washouts. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated that Dent County Roads 3180 and 4280 may be impassable with high water. Workers will be out checking for downed limbs and trees and also looking at the roads for any damages. Larson said parts of northwestern Dent County had received around nine inches or so of rain as of Monday morning. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles wanted to remind everyone to drive safely and use caution on the roads. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported payroll was being done and work continues on the 2016 county budget. She also indicated the courthouse will be closed on Friday for New Year’s Day. She also said County Fuels was the low bid on 1,000 gallons of unleaded fuel at a price of $1.53/gallon from last Wednesday. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Collectors Office will have extended hours for those wishing to pay their personal property and real estate taxes. From now through Thursday, December 31st, the Dent County Collectors Office will be open from 8:00 in the morning until 5:30 in the afternoon. Taxes may be paid in person at the Dent County Collectors Office, mailed by December 31st, dropped off at the drop box outside the courthouse at the southwest corner of the courthouse lawn or you can now pay them online. All taxes MUST be paid by December 31st to avoid paying interest and penalties. For those who mail their taxes on December 31st, take it to the mail clerk and ask to have the envelope hand stamped with the postmark. If you are paying online or with a debit card or credit card, the following fees will apply: To pay by Debit Card, there is a $3.95 additional fee; to pay by E-Check the additional fee is $1.50 and if paying by Credit Card, a 2.5% fee will be charged. If you want to drop off your payment in the drop box, do so by midnight December 31st. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports two people died in traffic crashes and seven people drowned over the Christmas holiday counting period that begun at 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 24th and went to 11:59 PM on Sunday, December 27th. During this year’s 78-hour counting period, the Patrol investigated 282 traffic crashes, which included 78 injuries and the two fatalities. In addition, troopers arrested 47 people for driving while intoxicated. There were no boating crashes. Seven people drowned after their vehicles were swept away by floodwaters. The Patrol continues to investigate. During last year’s 102-hour counting period, the Patrol investigated 284 traffic crashes, which included 91 injuries and five of the 14 fatalities. In addition, troopers arrested 66 people for driving while intoxicated in 2014. There were no boating crashes and no one drowned during the Christmas 2014 counting period. The two fatalities occurred in the Troop C, Weldon Spring, area, on Christmas Day, December 25th.  A total of seven reported drownings occurred in the counting period. Six people died when two vehicles were swept off low water crossings in central-Missouri's Pulaski County. Four were international soldiers training at Fort Leonard Wood, who were in a car swept away near Crocker. The county sheriff believes a fifth person was in that car. Two adults were in a vehicle swept away near Dixon. The other drowning occurred Sunday, December 27th after a vehicle was washed off Missouri Route CC at Simms Branch Creek in Greene County.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving an intoxicated male, a domestic dispute, a traffic violation and theft. On Thursday, December 17th at 5:29 PM, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of East Fourth in reference to an intoxicated male causing a disturbance. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 46-year old Salem male for open container and disorderly conduct.  He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. At 6:44 that night, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of East Third in reference to a domestic dispute. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 33-year old male of Salem for damaging a cell phone valued $40.00. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that same night at 11:32 a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. Investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem male for driving while drugged.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Friday, December 18th at 5:03 PM, an officer was detailed to the 1000 block of South Craig Industrial Drive in reference to a theft from a storage building. Investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took property valued $2275 from a storage unit.  The report is under investigation. Anyone with any information regarding the theft from the storage building is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

An accident occurred at 6:26 Sunday night in Phelps County westbound on I-44 at mile maker 169. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Mini Cooper driven by 22-year old Kristen Holland of Edgar Springs traveled off the right side of the roadway and then impacted a metal post and an embankment. Holland suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Mini Cooper sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by TC Towing of Waynesville.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers fell behind 30-7 after one quarter of play against Hogan Prep in the first round of the US Bank Holiday Tournament and were totally dominated by the Rams losing by the final score of 92-44. Salem is now 4-4 on the year and they will play today against Warrensburg at 3:30 at the Gale Bullman Multipurpose Building. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers beat Mountain View Liberty Last night to move on the semi-finals at the Mountain Grove Family Pharmacy Tournament. The final score was Salem 66-48. Salem will face the Houston Lady Tigers tonight at 6:30. The Lady Tigers are now 7-2 on the year.

The St. Louis Blues will host Nashville tonight starting at 6:30 on KSMO.  

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff tonight at 7:30. The game will not be heard on KSMO due to Blues Hockey.

OBITUARIES     [TOP]

Memorial services for Stanley Eugene Brown of Salem, age 64, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. There will be no interment.

Funeral services for Magalene “Marie” Emory of Salem, age 86, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. 

Funeral services for Janice Schafer of Salem, age 79, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Salem Church of Christ. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Jams and Gahr Chapel. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem Church of Christ for missions in India and South America.

There will be no funeral services for Elizabeth Hicks of Cherryville, age 87. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
