Continual rains in the Ozarks have produced a number of road closures in Dent and surrounding counties. As of 10:30 Sunday evening, these are the state roads that the Missouri State Highway Patrol have classified as closed. In Dent County, Spur EE and Route TT are both closed, Routes AA, T and P are closed in Phelps County while in Crawford County, Routes E, N, O and TT are closed. Also be careful of many county roads that may have been compromised with the excessive rainfall.

Salem City Administrator Ray Walden announced on Wednesday the City of Salem has hired Tye Lydon to serve as the new Director of Parks and Recreation, effective January 4th of 2016. Lydon recently graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville Missouri with a Masters in Applied Health and Sports Sciences. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Wellness from NWMSU. According to Walden, Lydon has held positions with the NWMSU Campus Fitness Center and other centers in the Midwest. In additon to the hiring of Lydon, the City of Salem is also pleased to announce Tyler Wofford of Salem has agreed to serve as the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation with his primary responsibility being grounds maintenance. A public reception is planned and will be announced in the near future.

The Dent County Health Center Board of Trustees met on Monday, December 21st. At the meeting, the board approved rescinding the State-Wide Memorandum of Understanding regarding disaster relief in Missouri that was approved and signed earlier this year due to legal issues with FEMA reimbursement as requested by the Department of Health. Jane Jadwin reported on influenza activity in Missouri for this flu season and it has been reported as sporadic. A season-to-date total of 410 laboratory-positive cases have been reported in Missouri. There have been no outbreaks or school closures reported to date in Missouri. Flu shots continue to be available at the Health Center on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday until the current supply is exhausted. The cost is $30. The Health Center will bill Medicare but you must bring your card with you. The WIC auditors did a full audit of the local WIC program on December 16th and 17th. There were no deficiencies found. This fulfills the audit requirement for WIC for the next 2 years. Jadwin did report that two Board members will have terms expiring in April of 2016. They are Sandra Headrick and Kim Smith. Interested persons can file for these positions through January 19th at the Dent County Court House during regular office hours. Due to the third Monday in January being a holiday, (Martin Luther King’s Day), the next regular board meeting date was moved to Tuesday, January 19th, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem Police have released some reports. On Saturday, December 12th at 4:30 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued $56.52. On Sunday, December 13th at 8:29 PM, officers were conducting an investigation of driving while intoxicated in the 700 block of East Third. The investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year old male of Salem for driving while intoxicated.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Monday morning, December 14th at 9:00 , an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $35.02. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That afternoon at 3:23, an officer was sent to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the detention of a 16-year old male juvenile for stealing merchandise valued $20.74. He was released to a parent and the report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. On Tuesday, December 15th at 1:10 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of West Dent in reference to utility theft. The investigation of the report revealed a 56-year old Salem female had turned on electric and water after having been shut off for nonpayment and used utilities valued at $289.75. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect for stealing utilities. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Wednesday, December 16th at 2:54 in the afternoon, an officer transported a 25-year old male of Mt. View, from the West Plains Sheriff's Department to the Dent County jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was incarcerated pending a court appearance. Later that afternoon at 4:21, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a lost and/or stolen license plate. The investigation of the report revealed the front license plate was missing from a black 1999 Ford Ranger. Anyone with any information regarding any report is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Payton Curley scored 16 points and Baylee Bilyeu added 10 more as the Salem Lady Tigers trounced Mountain Grove in the Family Pharmacy Tournament in Mountain Grove, 50-23. Salem is now 6-2 on the year and they will play Mt. View-Liberty tonight at Mt. Grove at 6:30 in the quarterfinals.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will be at the Rolla High School to face Hogan Prep today at 3:30 in the first round. Salem enters the game with a 4-3 record. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com.

After a thrilling nine-round shoot out win Saturday night against Dallas, 3-2, the Blues were listless Sunday and lost to the Stars on the backend of a home and home series, 3-0. The Blues trail Dallas by nine points in the Central Division.  They will play Nashville Tuesday night.

Todd Gurley scored on a 2-yard TD run with 10:34 left, Akeem Ayers returned a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and the St. Louis Rams ended Seattle's five-game win streak with a 23-17 victory over the Seahawks on Sunday. Gurley rushed for 85 yards on 19 carries. Case Keenum won his third straight start for the Rams, completing 14 of 23 passes for 103 yards and a TD Pass.

Alex Smith threw two touchdown passes for Kansas City, and the game clock finally stopped Johnny Manziel as the Chiefs held on to beat the Cleveland Browns 17-13 on Sunday for their franchise record-tying ninth consecutive victory. Smith threw for 125 yards while running for 54, helping Kansas City (10-5) clinch a playoff berth when Pittsburgh lost to Baltimore moments after his own game ended.

Funeral services for Darrell G. Bentley of Licking, age 65, will be held this morning at 11:00 at Fox Chapel in Licking.  Interment will be at Montauk Cemetery. 

Memorial services for Stanley Eugene Brown of Salem, age 64, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. There will be no interment.

Funeral services for Magalene “Marie” Emory of Salem, age 86, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
