The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, a group of individuals were in attendance that live on Dent County Road 2400 who were not happy with the condition of the road. Their concerns centered on inconsistent road conditions, brush not being cut, roads lower than the ditches allowing for water to accumulate on the road, culverts that were clogged, driveways with no culverts and the road not being properly crowned that would  allow for proper water drainage. The group said potholes supposedly repaired reappeared in a couple of days, and water was constantly on the road as some of the group indicated the county grader operator who worked on the road did not know how to grade the road properly. District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell was aware of the some of the issues that were discussed as he traveled the road just after a rain on a Sunday night a little over a week ago that left the road in bad shape after it had been shaved down to remove potholes, while workers will be looking at adding a culvert on a low spot in the road that would allow additional water to go underneath the county road. The county work crews were aware some of the ditches also need to be pulled, but it is too wet to do that now without bringing mud up on to the road. He said the road was going to be worked on Monday with more materials added. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams gave the CART report for the month of December and the receipts for the month came in at $54,812.52 which was almost $500 more than for December of 2014’s figure of $54,316.96. The year-to-date increase in the CART fund was $26,172.54 and that comes to about a 4.05% increase. In the road report, Purcell reiterated grading was going to be done and materials added to Dent County Roads 2400 and 6190, while only grading would be done on county road 5600. Commissioner Gary Larson from District 2 stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2403 and 4280 while brush would be cut on county roads 2510 and 3220. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and remind everyone the Dent County Courthouse will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so there will be no commission meeting on Thursday. He also wanted to remind everyone to be careful in your travels on the roads. The board discussed the bid on a pup trailer from Montgomery Sales of Montgomery City, Missouri for $14,500 from last Thursday. Montgomery Sales agreed to provide the pup trailer with a dual wheel setup for no additional charge and the commissioners agreed to purchase the pup trailer for the bid of $14,500.00. Dent County Assessor Tina Whitaker came in and the Commission signed her two-year maintenance agreement. The county then renewed the MOPERM insurance coverage for the year 2016. Ted Cunningham with the Extension Council came in to discuss the 2016 Extension budget. The Extension is requesting an increase from $37,500 to $40,000 for 2016. The increase is to adjust for an additional 6 hours a week more for an employee, so they can become a full time employee with benefits. Alex Sellers and Andrew Curley came in to discuss the Salem Initiative Group to the commissioners. Their push is for community betterment and making the Salem economy better. The 2012 Strategic Plan that the MPRC, Dent County Commission and the City of Salem worked on is something they would like to build on and build up. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning, December 28th at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
