The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors met for their regular meeting Tuesday evening at the hospital library. Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus gave the summary of operations for the month of November that showed inpatient admissions and outpatient registrations down slightly for the month from the budgeted amount. During the month, the loss from operations was $160,237 while the cash flow statement showed an increase in cash of $877. Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks reported during the month there were 59 acute care admissions, 750 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 117 minutes. Also during the month, there were 162 ambulance runs with 169 patients being assessed and 123 patients transported to the hospital. There were 34 surgery cases, 1,628 outpatient registrations, 200 home health visits, 6,879 lab tests, 852 radiological procedures, 168 CT scans, 17 MRI scans, 10 nuclear med scans, 1,480 cardiopulmonary procedures, 446 rehab treatments, 201 dialysis treatments and 321 clinical visits of which 139 were for podiatry. Assistant Administrator Kasey Lucas reported that the hospital continues to look into ways to enhance revenue including price increases for various services as suggested by the auditors and review provider contract for cost saving measures. The hospital will review the contracts for nuclear medicine and the lab chemistry analyzer, reduce overtime, more efficient staffing in departments and will not replace the assistant administrator position. The overall enhancement or cost savings resulting from these measures will be about $1 million dollars over the next 12 months. In old business, the Board tabled discussion involving the 2011 Strategic Planning meeting, the Community Health Needs Assessment, the Ozarks Independent Health Alliance (IOHA) and the annual bylaw review. The election filings have begun and will continue until January 19th for the District #3 seat currently held by Dennis Fiebelman. In new business, insurance for the hospital including workers compensation, property and employee health were addressed by the Board. Recommendations were made and the Board approved changing the worker compensation insurance from Hartford to MEM that results in a savings of about $60,000. The Board left the property insurance with Chubb which is provided by Progressive, a local business. The health insurance for hospital employees stayed with GBS with almost a $169,000 increase in the premium. The deductible of $1,000 would remain the same while the rates are expected to go up. The board then approved the changing of the names on the bank checking accounts and lock box. The Board then acknowledged Tabitha Stanfast, ER Director at the Salem Memorial District Hospital, for being name the Chair for the Region I Homeland Security Oversight Committee. The Board then voted to go into closed and the meeting was then adjourned.
