The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams came in to get the commissioners to sign off on the Senior Citizens Fund budgeted transfer of $20,750 to the holding account to be distributed to the Salem Nutrition Center, the Agency on Aging and the SMTS bus service. The total transferred amount for the year was $83.000. In the report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated about two inches rain fell Sunday into Monday morning. Because most of the rain came in about a 10-12 hour period, crews will be out checking roads for any washouts as well as downed trees or limbs. Purcell indicated maintenance was going to be done on truck #119 and on brush cutter #8. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said his crews would also be out checking for washouts and downed limbs or trees, plus they would have to rebuild a chain for one of the salt spreaders this week. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported on the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting held Thursday at the MRPC offices in St. James. He said in the region, three projects for Dent County were on the board if MoDOT can find the money to make the repairs and that included two bridges on Route F, the bridge on Highway 32-72 at Dry Valley and the low water crossing on Route T near Sligo. The Route F project did make it into the top ten after the voting was completed. In the MRPC Region, there are only 15 projects that qualify for MoDOT’s 325 plan of only making repairs to primary routes. The Highway 32-72 bridge at Dry Valley came in 4th while the Standing Rock Bridge on Highway 19 at Gladden came in 7th. Skiles also wanted to thank the City of Salem Electric Department for helping repair or replace the Christmas lights around the courthouse and also for putting up the lights on the large blue spruce on the courthouse lawn. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley stated filing for the April election begins today and will last until January 19th, 2016. Persons should sign up at the office of the entities they are interested in running for except for the Dent County Health Board and those who want to be on that board should sign up at the Dent County Clerk’s office. She said the last day to register to vote for the Presidential Primary in March will be February 17th. Curley also reported the maintenance contract for the 9-1-1 equipment with CenturyLink expired in March and they will not renew it as CenturyLink says the equipment is now obsolete. They recommend replacing the equipment with new serviceable equipment and a rough estimate to do that for the two work stations at the Dent County Sheriff’s Office could cost between $120,000 to $150,000. Joe Weber working with Goldberg Group Associates brought in some basic preliminary plans for the proposed new jail/justice system to get feedback from the elected officials. The next meeting of the commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 5:46 Sunday night in Phelps County on I-44 at the 173.8 eastbound mile marker that took the life of three people from Rolla.
