An accident happened in Crawford County on Highway 8 about one-quarter mile east of Highway 19 in Steelville that left a seven-year old boy with serious injuries. According to the highway patrol report, 49-year old Lisa Brown of Steelville was driving a 2012 Ford Focus eastbound when seven-year old Kaden Robertson of Steelville ran into the roadway and was struck by the Ford. Robertson suffered serious injuries and was life-flighted by Air Evac to the Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. The vehicle did sustain moderate damages and was driven from the scene.

The winners of the 2015 Christmas Parade entitled, “Mardi Gras Christmas” that was held Saturday, December 5th have been announced and taking 1st place in the commercial category was the City of Salem, 1st place in the non-commercial category was the Corinth Baptist Church and the 1st place horsemanship winner was Alyvia Toman. A special thank you to all that participated as well as helped make the Christmas Parade a huge success.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of November. During the month, they wrote nine equipment repair orders, 18 summons to appear in court, four warning tickets, and 10 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 15 accidents, three assaults, four burglaries, two reports of disorderly conduct, eight reports of domestic violence, one report of driving while intoxicated, one report of endangering the welfare of a child, one report of harassment, and two reports of a lost and/or stolen license plate. The department also investigated one report of a missing person, one report of a probation and/or parole violation warrant, three reports of property damage, one report of resisting and/or interfering with a felony arrest, one report of statutory rape and/or sodomy, 21 reports of stealing, three reports of trespassing, one report of unlawful possession of a weapon, one report of a violation of an exparte and/or full order of protection and one 96-hour commitment. They also investigated one report of possession of amphetamine, one report of possession of benzodiazepine, one report of possession of heroin, one report of marijuana, one report of possession of methamphetamine, three reports of possession of drug paraphernalia and one report of possession of synthetic drugs. The police department received 1,185 calls for service during the month, and handled 147 walk-ins to the station. They spent 30 hours in court testifying, and four hours as court bailiff. The calls in November included: 15 calls for alarms sounding, 27 ambulance assist calls, 62 calls for animal control, 15 calls to assist other agencies, 16 calls for building checks, 35 checking on the well being calls, 12 calls for domestic disputes, 12 calls for an escort, two calls for a fight, two fire calls and 8 calls for harassment.  There were three hotline calls, four calls to investigate an intoxicated driver, two calls to investigate an intoxicated pedestrian, seven calls to keep the peace, three motorist assist calls, nine calls for a peace disturbance, 12 calls for a physical and/or verbal disturbance, five calls for property damage, six calls for a prowler, and 10 calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 8,332 miles and arrested 19 males and 11 females all during the month of November.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers battled Houston Friday night in the Championship game of the Cabool tournament and lost a tight ball game, 63-56. Payton Curley had 19 points to lead the Lady Tigers followed by Baylee Bilyeu with 12 points and seven blocks. Salem drops to 5-1 on the year and they will host West Plains tonight starting with JV game at 6:00. The varsity game can be heard on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com and the game will be on Fidelity Local 6.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers led 41-27 after three quarters of play, then dominated the St. James Tigers in the 4th quarter outscoring them 23-10 en route to a 64-47 win. Kobe Mead netted 28 points to lead the Salem Tigers while Trae Tucker led St. James with 16 points. Salem improves to 4-1 on the year and will be at Rolla tomorrow night.

Jack Skille and John Mitchell scored in the first period and Semyon Varlamov made a season-high 42 saves to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday. Varlamov stopped the first 36 shots until Vladimir Tarasenko spoiled his shutout bid with a power-play goal with 7:05 remaining. It was Tarasenko's team-high 18th of the season. Jake Allen, coming off the shutout win over Dallas Saturday night, 2-0, had 15 saves for the Blues Sunday, who fell to 2-4-1 in December. The Blues will be on the road Tuesday night in Winnipeg to face the Jets.

Todd Gurley ran for 140 yards and two second-half touchdowns, and the St. Louis Rams ended a five-game losing streak with a 21-14 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Trumaine Johnson's 58-yard interception return for St. Louis was the only score in the first half who improve to 5-8 on the year and keep their slim playoff chances alive. The Rams will play Thursday when they host Tampa Bay.

The Kansas City Chiefs kept the San Diego Chargers out of the end zone twice in the final seconds Sunday, preserving a 10-3 victory and their seventh consecutive win. Alex Smith threw for 191 yards and a touchdown, along with his first interception after a franchise-record 312 attempts. But it was a banged-up defense that held San Diego without a touchdown for the second time this season that allowed the Chiefs (8-5) to escape with the win. The only Chiefs touchdown was a 44-yard slant pass to Albert Wilson in the 2nd quarter. The Chiefs will play at Baltimore next Sunday.

Funeral services for Rovert “Bob” Gromer of Bunker, age 83, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the Corridon-Reynolds Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Life Assembly of God Church in Bunker.

Funeral services for Joseph Disser of St. James, age 87, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the St. James City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the PCRMC Hospice.

Funeral services for Charles Robert “Bob” Wade of Rolla, age 92, will be held Tuesday at noon at the Wilson Funeral Home in Fredricktown, MO. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the Libertyville Christian Cemetery.

Funeral services for Scott Gott of Salem, age 47, will be held Thursday, December 17th, at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time next Thursday. Interment will be at a later date.

Funeral services for Jewell Young Medley of Salem, age 88, will be held Friday at 12:00 at the Grace Community Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Doshia Stricklin of Bixby, are incomplete and all arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
