An accident occurred in Salem at 3:16 Wednesday afternoon that took the life of a local man. According to the Salem Police report, a 2003 GMC Sonoma driven south by Christian Martin of Salem was stopped at the stop sign on Dilworth at the intersection of Highway 32. Martin and two witnesses stated that a school bus and other vehicles were traveling west bound on Highway 32 in the north lane. The school bus was making a right turn onto Dilworth and Martin stated that he did not see anything in the other lanes as the vehicles approached, so he proceeded to make his left turn onto Highway 32 traveling east. At that time, a 2005 Harley Davidson Road King driven by Scott Gott of Salem was traveling west on Highway 32 in the south lane. Gott could not see the GMC until the vehicle was in the driving lane and attempted to swerve to miss the GMC where they collided in the center turn lane. Gott was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 32. Gott was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries suffered in the accident. Martin suffered minor injures. Both vehicles were totaled and were towed from the scene.

An accident occurred at 4:10 Wednesday afternoon in Dent County about six miles north of Salem on Dent County Road 3180. According to the highway patrol report, a 1986 Honda 125 ATV driven by 30-year old Seth Broussard of Viburnum was traveling eastbound. The accident occurred due to Broussard driving carelessly and the ATV overturned. Two-year old Brody Broussard suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by private vehicle. He was not wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Honda ATV sustained minor damage and was left at the residence.
