The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5400, 6310, 6350 and 6480, while materials are still being hauled to county road 5600, commonly called the Turtle loop, as part of the Title II Project.  District II Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2360, 2335, 5225, 3283 and 3270.  He went on to say that two men would be cutting brush on Dent County Roads 2240, 2530, and 2555.  Larson added that a man was going to Springfield to get another load of oil for the Dura-Patcher.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that last Thursday afternoon he and Commissioner Purcell attended the Meramec Watershed Meeting at Meramec Caverns in Stanton. The series of meetings continues to look at agriculture and tourism activities along the watershed and how they affect water quality. Skiles said that information provided indicated that neither one is causing any real problems or concerns for the watershed. A cattle producer from the Pacific area, who farms along both sides of the Meramec, spoke and indicated that in his estimation the river quality was as good as it’s ever been and his operation has been in the family for generations. Commissioner Purcell noted that even though no red flags have went up to date relative to the Meramec Watershed the Commissioners and citizens need to be vigilant and stay attentive to DNR as to its motives and the final outcome of the meetings.  Skiles added that he would be attending the Meramec Community Enhancement Committee meeting Tuesday afternoon in St. James. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that her office is continuing to work on the 2016 budget and that a few departments have turned theirs in. She reminded voters to make sure they have their voter registration cards and that the information is accurate. If voters have any questions they should call her office at 729-4144. Curley noted that the last day to register for the March 15th Presidential Preference Primary Election is February 17th. She also noted that filings for the April Municipal Election will begin on Tuesday December 15th. At the December 3rd meeting of the commissioners, they voted 3-0 to advertise for bids on a used 1997 or newer pup trailer for the Road and Bridge Department. Bids will be due and opened on December 17th at 10:00 a.m. Bids can be sent to the Dent County Clerk, 400 N. Main Street, Salem and should be marked “sealed bid” on the envelope. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
