The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade will be this Saturday evening starting at 5:30. It is the annual Christmas Parade of Lights so come and join the community for an evening of brilliant lights and good cheer with the theme this year, "Mardi Gras Christmas." The parade route will start out near the SBU Campus on Franklin, then move east to McArthur where it will travel north to 4th Street, then head east to the Dent County Courthouse square. There will also be vendor booths Saturday from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 at the old Salem City Hall. The University of Missouri Extension will offer Missouri agriculture lenders insight into Ag Lender issues during a December 8th seminar at the Phelps County Courthouse in the multipurpose Room in Rolla, located at 200 North Main Street. The MU Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics sponsors a statewide series of Ag lender seminars in cooperation with regional MU Extension specialists. Dr. Scott Brown, MU Ag Economist, will discuss the 2015-2016 livestock and grain outlook. USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Phelps County Executive Director Gregg Barrows will cover crops and livestock coverage under the provisions of the 2014 Farm Bill. USDA FSA District Seven Farm Loan Director Dennis Johnson will discuss the Farm Loan Program in Missouri. Patricia Barrett, a Regional Ag Business Specialist, will share the current land and rental outlook for the surrounding counties. The program will run from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM with registration at 9:30 AM. The program fee of $40 includes a hot catered meal and a copy of the 2015 Missouri Farm Financial Outlook book. The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their December meeting Tuesday evening at the fire station. After approving the agenda and minutes from the previous meeting, the Board reviewed and approved bills. The Board then reviewed and approved the budget for 2016. The 2015 Toy Drive signups will be held TODAY and December 10th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the fire station. The toys will be distributed on December 21st. The monthly reimbursement report showed that there were a total of 14 calls for November that included three calls for structure fires, five calls for brush fires, one first responder call, two calls for vehicle accidents, one call for mutual aid, one call for a fire alarm and one call for training. The total calls to date for the year is 240. Fire Chief Brad Nash told the Board that Enrichment Services had spent a lot of time on decorating the Fire Department. The Board agreed it was a great job and wanted to thank Enrichment Services for all the hard work. The Board set their next meeting for Tuesday, January 5th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM and the meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education Special Meeting scheduled for today at noon at the district administrative offices had been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts with the board members.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving theft, a domestic disturbance, a burglary and a shoplifter. On Sunday, November 22nd at 6:16 PM, an officer was contacted at the station in reference a theft. The investigation of the report revealed someone unknown took license plates off of a 2002 Buick parked in the 200 block of South Warfel. On Monday, November 23rd at 3:58 PM, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of North Jackson in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report revealed a 16-year old Salem male had assaulted a 33-year old Salem male.  Further investigation led to the detention of the juvenile for assault. The juvenile was released to his parent and the report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. On Tuesday, November 24th at 2:04 in the early morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a burglary at a residence in the 600 block of North Henderson. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown forcibly entered a residence and took property valued at $860. That same morning at 8:03, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1800 block of South Oak in reference to a theft. The report revealed that someone unknown took a wallet and property valued at $174.81 from a gold 2002 Chevrolet Impala that was parked near the residence. Early that evening at 5:03, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of South Water in reference to the theft of checks. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown stole checks and cashed two in the amount of $200.00. On Wednesday, November 25th at 1:47 PM an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation ed to the arrest of a 38-year old Salem male for stealing merchandise valued $15.64. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. The Children’s Old-Fashioned Christmas will be held on Monday, December 7th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Bonebrake Center of Nature and History at 601 North Hickory in Salem. Come out and help decorate the “Children’s Tree,” creating and decorating the old-fashion ways with popcorn, clothespin angels, paper chains, oranges and cookies. This program is appropriate for children through about 12 years old. The cost is $1 per child or $5 for the whole family. Adults are free. For more information call 729-3400.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host the Sullivan Lady Eagles tonight in a non-conference game beginning with the JV contest at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. The varsity game can be heard on KSMO Radio, online at ksmoradio.com and will be recorded for Fidelity Local 6.

Funeral services for Monte Allen Farris of Rolla, age 59, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Memorials may be made to the Rolla Nutrition Site.

Funeral services for Patricia Ann Oakley of Salem, age 72, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family of Patricia Oakley.

Funeral services for Gabriele Gisela Carpenter of Dixon, age 64, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association.

Funeral services for James Edward Boley of Edgar Springs, age 42, are incomplete at this time and all arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem.
