An accident occurred at 9:10 Monday night that took the life of a woman from St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a pedestrian, 21-year old Miya Goetz of St. James, was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on the westbound shoulder of I-44. Goetz exited the vehicle, crossing to Old Highway 66 and was struck by a 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager driven by 29-year old Christopher Ford of St. James traveling westbound on Old Highway 66 about a half mile from county road 2290 in Phelps County. Goetz was pronounced at the scene by Dr. Nwodo at 9:36 Monday night and was transported by the St. James ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. The Plymouth Grand Voyager sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.

An accident occurred Monday evening at 5:00 in Phelps County on I-44 in the westbound lanes at mile marker 169. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Dodge Stratus driven by 22-year old Jason Russell of Rolla, lost control of the Dodge and traveled off the right side of the roadway. The Dodge Stratus overturned and came to rest in the ditch on its wheels. Russell suffered moderate injuries and was transported by the Phelps County ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. A passenger, 30-year old Anthony Bickley of St. Robert suffered no injuries and refused treatment. Everyone involved was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Dodge Stratus was totaled and removed from the scene by Ron Dishman’s Towing.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released a report. On Friday, November 20th at about 4:40 in the afternoon, a victim walked into the Dent County Sheriff's Office wishing to file a complaint of theft from her residence. The complaint detailed that a floor jack valued at $170.00 was stolen from her residence. The victim told deputies that information she received from a person wishing to remain anonymous that the floor jack had been pawned at Cousin's Pawn in Salem. The investigation revealed that 28-year old John Keel of Salem pawned the item. Keel was arrested at his residence without incident and issued a summons for the theft. On Tuesday, November 24th, a victim contacted the Dent County Sheriff's Office and reported that someone has broken into her residence in the 43000 block of Highway 72. Upon arrival, deputies observed forced entry through a rear door.  An LG tablet with an unknown value was taken from the residence.  The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information regarding an incident is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office at 729-3241.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving property damage, theft and a traffic violation. On Wednesday, November 18th at 3:50 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Salem Upper Elementary in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report revealed a 14-year old male juvenile of Salem had broken the glass on a vehicle valued at $300 in the parking lot. Further investigation led to the detention of the juvenile who was later released to a parent. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. On Thursday, November 19th at 2:19 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of William Avenue in reference to a theft.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a 2008 utility trailer valued $1,600 from the yard of a residence. At 2:00 in the early morning of Friday, November 20th, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 19-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 10:00 that same morning, an officer contacted a 17-year old Salem male at the Salem Police Department who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. Later that same morning at 10:54, an officer was contacted in reference to a theft from a vehicle in the 1100 block of South Jackson. That investigation revealed someone unknown took a wedding ring set valued $3,000 from a red 2003 Ford Expedition. Anyone with any information regarding the theft reports is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct a Special Meeting at the district administrative offices boardroom on Thursday, December 3rd beginning at 12:00 (noon). The Board will discuss the annual MSBA conference and resignations. The Special Meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Trees and Trains Exhibit is currently on display at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center. This Thursday night at 7:00 at the exhibit, come hear the sounds of the Salem R-80 Chamber Choir. The Chamber choir will also be performing at the Victorian Musical Christmas this Saturday at the Bonebrake Center of Nature and History. Derek MacKenzie scored twice, and the Florida Panthers beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Tuesday night. David Backes scored for the Blues. Jake Allen made 12 saves in two periods, and Brian Elliott made eight stops in the third. The Blues had won six straight games against the Panthers. They are now 4-4-2 over their last 10 games after an 11-3-1 start to the season.

Namon Wright scored 14 points, including nine in the second half, helping Missouri defeat Arkansas State 88-78 on Tuesday night. Missouri big men Ryan Rosburg and Kevin Puryear each scored 10 points, shooting a combined 9 of 16. Puryear added seven rebounds and Rosburg two. The Tigers (3-3) outscored the Red Wolves (2-5) 44-26 in the paint and won the rebound margin 43-39.

Funeral services for Howard H. Goforth of Salem, age 71, will be held at 1:00 today at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

A Celebration of Life for Tammey Lyn (Smith) Reid of Salem, age 51, will be held tonight evening from 6:00 to 8:00 with a service at 6:30 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. There will be no interment.

Funeral services for Richard Allen “Rick” Keith of Salem, age 57, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Project Win.

Funeral services for Monte Allen Farris of Rolla, age 59, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Rolla Nutrition Site.

Funeral services for Patricia Ann Oakley of Salem, age 72, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family of Patricia Oakley.
