The Dent County Toy Drive is going on now and they are looking for donations of new and gently used toys from the general public. Toys or monetary donations to help with the purchase of toys can be left at the Dent County Fire Protection District Firehouse and also at the Salem Community Center @ The Armory to help serve the needy children in Dent County. Signups will be held at the Dent County Fire House on Thursday, December 3rd and Thursday, December 10th from 3:00 to 6:00. The toys will be distributed on December 21st. Last year, over 200 children received toys from this program. Also, Wal-Mart and The Salvation Army have joined together again this holiday season to create an “Angel Tree” which will be placed at Wal-Mart with the names and ages of children in our community that need Christmas gifts. Shoppers can adopt an angel from the tree, beginning this Friday, December 4th. Select a tag from the tree representing a specific child.  You should shop for the gifts based on the parent’s suggestions. You do not have to purchase everything as this is just a guideline. Bring unwrapped gifts to the Wal-Mart Service Desk along with the angel tag by Friday, December 19th. Gifts will be distributed to your adopted “angel” on Monday, December 21st. Parents can sign up their child for the “Angel Tree” by submitting an application at the Dent County Fire Department on Thursday, December 3rd and Thursday, December 10th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. For questions or more information about signups or the “Angel Tree,” please contact The Salvation Army at 729-8163.
