The Dent County Commission held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Kim Corder was in to talk with the Commission about a residence out on Franklin Street in the county that neighbors feel is a danger to the neighborhood. The Commission explained that with no planning or zoning in the county, they would have to call the Dent County Sheriff’s Office. Chaplain Richard LaBrash of American Legion Post #99 in Salem was in to thank the Commission and residents of Dent County for their support of the Adopt-A-Vet program last year. They raised $7,500 that went to support all the vets at the St. James Veteran’s Home last year and he officially declared the Adopt-A-Vet program underway for this year. He said it takes about $50 per veteran and anyone wishing to help support the Adopt-A-Vet program can drop off their donations at the American Legion on Highway 32 West or call him at 729-1394. Representatives from Copen and 24/7 Homes were in to update the Commission on their lighting situation. As they were replacing lights it the courthouse, they wanted to let the Commission know that the wiring is in atrocious condition inside the light fixture. It is fixable with new end caps, but the concern is about the wiring throughout the courthouse and recommended having an electrician or engineer to come in and check out all the wiring. The Commission will have the wiring looked at. In road reports, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that his district received anywhere from five to seven inches of rain. Crews were out picking up dead trees, limbs and patching washouts throughout the district on numerous roads. He said that all roads should be back in full service by Monday. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that his district reported anywhere from five to 6½ inches of rain. His crews were out removing trees as well as limbs at low water crossings. Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles reported that he along with Commissioners Purcell and Larson as well as Dent County Clerk Angie Curley attended the Missouri Association of Counties Conference on Monday. Skiles said the one issue that came out at that meeting was the Use Tax. Dent County currently collects the Use Tax and in order to continue collecting it, the issue has to be on the ballot by November 2016 and pass. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that bills were being reviewed and approved. She went on to say with next year having four elections, she is encouraging voters to be sure and check their voter cards that were recently sent out for name, address and voting place accuracy. There were 600 voter cards returned that were sent back with no such address on them. If you did not receive your new voter card or have any changes, please stop by the Clerk’s office or call 729-4144. Commissioner Purcell wanted to remind people that you still have time to comment on the Ozark National Scenic Rivers Management Plan regarding roads and trails. The deadline to comment is November 25th. You can go to their website at www.parkplanning.nps.gov. Special Investigator Wayne Becker came in to inform the Commission that the South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force was awarded at additional $7,000 through the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. This additional award is for the purchase of software, equipment and training with no matching grant funds needed. At the last meeting, the Commission approved 3-0 to seek bids on selling a 1997 Wheeler Pup Trailer, salvage title, damaged and can be viewed at the Road and Bridge Department. Bids will be due and opened on November 30th at 10:00 AM. Bids are to be submitted to the County Clerk at 400 North Main Street. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
