On Monday, November 16th, Dent County Sheriff’s Department Deputies conducted a traffic stop on 5th Street near Highway 19. During a consent search of a purse and a vehicle, heroin and drug paraphernalia was discovered. As a result of the items found, Kenneth Dixon and Jeannie Bates both of St. Louis were arrested. Both Dixon and Bates are currently being held in the Dent County Jail with a cash only bond of $25,000 each. The above information is just an accusation, and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence

The Salem Police Department released their reports for Sunday, November 8th.  At 5:26 in the early evening, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter.  That investigation led to the arrest of a 24-year old male from Lenox for stealing merchandise valued at $63.60. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Later that night at 10:17, an officer located a 30-year-old male of Salem in the 100 block of South Carty who had two active arrest warrants from Dent County. He was taken into custody on the warrants and incarcerated pending a court appearance. That same night at 10:51, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of South Warfel in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report revealed that a 26-year old Salem male had assaulted a 28-year old Salem female. The investigation also revealed the suspect to be in possession of a controlled substance. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect for 1st degree domestic assault, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of benzodiazepine, possession of synthetic narcotics possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He was incarcerated pending the application of warrants. The historic Route 19 bridge over Sinking Creek in Shannon County is available for relocation and reuse by others. Any interested party is encouraged to submit a proposal no later than December 15th to the Missouri Department of Transportation Historic Preservation Section. Slated for improvements, this bridge can be obtained by government entities, historical or civic groups, or private citizens, free of charge. Anyone interested in obtaining a historic bridge must submit a detailed proposal describing the dismantling and relocation plan, cost and future use. A proposal checklist is available online. The Sinking Creek Bridge is a three span, two-rib open spandrel concrete arch bridge with concrete girder approach spans. It was constructed in 1925. The bridge has a total length of 338 feet, with three 80-foot arch spans. The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their November meeting tonight in the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 PM. After approval of the agenda, minutes from the previous meeting and communications, there will be an update on the stories that were written by the 5th graders at the Upper Elementary and then read to the 2nd and 3rd graders. Superintendent John McColloch will then update the Board on the Parent Teacher conferences, Professional Development Day and there will also be a budget update. Principals from the respective buildings will update the Board on events and happenings at each of the district schools. Then in new business the Board will approve the auditor’s report, set the Board election filings dates as well as a Graduation date. The Board will then adjourn their regular meeting and vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The November meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District (ORSWMD is updating its district waste management plan and will host its first focus group meeting from 2:00 to 4:00 PM today at Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC), at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James. The district is requesting input from the general public, industry experts and stakeholders. Presentations on significant waste streams will be provided and the group will discuss the unique needs of rural waste management with emphasis on reduction and reuse and current legislation. A second focus group meeting will be held December 17th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the MRPC office. The district’s goal is create an updated plan that will serve as a viable roadmap to assure healthy and prosperous communities throughout the region. The St. Louis Blues will play Buffalo tonight at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis starting at 7:00. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 6:30. The Blues have lost three of the last four games.

The Salem Boys and Girls Basketball season will begin Saturday when they face Hallsville in Rolla at noon.

Funeral services for David Lee Shannon of Rolla, age 61, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Redeemer Lutheran Church of the Lions Club.

Memorial services for Barbara Ann Waggoner, formerly of Rolla, age 80, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Christian Science Church in Boston, Mass.

Memorial services for Irvine Bowers of Cuba, age 91, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Cuba. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 until service time. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
