missourinetLOCAL NEWS:

The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Sheriff-elect Bob Wells was in again to observe and discuss some pre-installation questions. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that he had several men out using up comp time and vacation time so work was limited to grading and adding materials to Dent County Road 5080, plus a man was going to Springfield to get oil for chip and seal repairs on county roads 4120 and 5045. He added that a crew member was out picking up old tires and replacing stolen and damaged county road signs. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said he also had guys out so work in his district was limited to materials being added and grading being done on Dent County Road 4060. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that last Thursday he attended the MRPC External Relations Committee Meeting and the MRPC Board Meeting where state legislative priorities were approved. He said state representatives and senators would be attending the December MRPC Board meeting where the priorities would be shared. Skiles went on to say that on January 24th MRPC representatives would be going to Jefferson City to visit one on one with legislators. He noted that the weather conflict date would be January 31st. Skiles also noted that federal legislative priorities were reviewed and those would be shared with the federal legislators that attend the January MRPC meeting. He added that MRPC’S audit was presented and it was “clean.” Skiles said that on Wednesday he attended the Central Region Workforce Investment Board caucus meeting of the Presiding Commissioners in the Central District. He noted there would be no commissioner meeting Monday, November 21st as they will be attending the Missouri Association of Commissioners Conference in Jefferson City and that the Courthouse will be closed Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th in observance of Thanksgiving, so the next meeting of the Commission will be Monday November 28th. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that she balanced with the Collector and Assessor on all accounts, monthly collections, abatements and add-ons for the month of October. She went on to say that the  Commissioners were reviewing the reports, that bills were being approved and that her office was continuing to work on budgets. Skiles mentioned the Century Link bill for the new 911 equipment totaled $99,372.86. The funds to pay the bill will come from the 911 fund, the sheriff’s department equipment budget and general revenue. Skiles said this is a good example why general revenue balances need to be as high as they are in order to be ready for emergency expenditures. Dan Jones of Erb John Deere Equipment was in to share some numbers for budgeting purposes about buy back and trades for the two motor graders that are scheduled to be cycled out. The one dump truck bid was opened from Utility One Source of Ft. Worth, Texas for a 2007 International truck with 19,000 miles in the amount of $67,500. The Commissioners approved the purchase 3-0. The one bid for a 2013 Ford Police Interceptor with 56,931 miles in the amount of $13,995 was approved 3-0. Both bids were to replace vehicles that had been wrecked. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday, November 28th in the Courthouse at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
