The Salem Police Department released reports involving a drug violation, a fight in progress, a stolen credit card purchase, theft of fuel, property damage and traffic violations. On Thursday, November 3rd at 12:47 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Salem High School in reference to a drug violation. The report revealed marijuana was found in a students backpack. Further investigation led to the detention of a 15-year old male of Salem.  The juvenile suspect was later released to a relative and the report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Officer for further action. At 1:20 that same afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of East Hunt in reference to a fight in progress. The report led to the arrest of 58-year old male and a 37-year old male, both of Salem for disorderly conduct. Both were issued summonses to appear in court and were released. That night at 9:10, an officer transported a 24-year old male of Springfield, from the Crawford County Jail to Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Tuesday, November 8th 8:38 in the morning, an officer was sent to the Casey's General Store located on Highway 32 East in reference to someone attempting to use a stolen credit card to make a purchase. The report revealed the owner of the Card, a resident of Rolla, was monitoring the account of the card that had been reported stolen in Rolla. The victim contacted the Salem Police Department when the attempt was made to use it at Casey's. Officers located a 23-year old male of Rolla, outside Casey's who had tried to use the card and he was taken into custody for possession of the stolen card, attempting to use the card and possession of methamphetamine.  He was released to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department for further investigation, pending the application for a warrant. That afternoon at 3:30, an officer was detailed to Casey's General Store located on Macarthur in reference to the theft of fuel. The report revealed the driver of a blue Dodge truck pumped $10.00 in fuel and left without paying. The report is under investigation. That same afternoon at 3:46, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of South Henderson in reference to property damage. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown broke the passenger side front glass, valued at $150.00 out of a blue 2007 Ford 500. The report is under investigation. That night at 7:24, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 32-year old male of Salem for driving while having his license revoked. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Wednesday, November 9th at 5:00 in the early evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 28-year old male from Black for driving while having his license suspended. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their November meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent John McColloch will update the Board regarding a Veteran’s Day presentation, parent teacher conferences, Professional Development day and an annual performance report. Principals from the William Lynch Elementary, Salem R-80 Upper Elementary, Salem Middle School and Salem High School will address the Board with various current and upcoming events and happenings at each of the schools. In new business, the Board will approve the auditor’s report and then set Board election filings dates. The Board will then address resignations and vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The November meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The American Legion Post #99/VFW Post #6280 has kicked off the 5th Annual Adopt-A-Veteran Program. The program provides financial resource for the veterans of the St. James Veterans Home to have Christmas as we know it. The program has been embraced by the citizens of Dent County for the last three years and all 150 veterans were adopted. Veteran representatives are working in the community now through December 19th, at which time the veterans at St. James Veterans Home will receive the financial resource to provide their Christmas, as well as gifts and other appreciations from the citizens and veterans of Dent County. Project Graduation 2017 Pie Fundraiser, just in time for the holidays, will be held this Saturday, November 19th at the Crossroads Center parking lot. The Missouri Basketball Tigers will be in Orlando, Florida to face Xavier in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament. The game will start at 12:30 while the pre-game begins on KSMO Radio at 12:00 noon. Missouri goes into the game with a 1-00 record. If Missouri wins, they play at 1:00 Friday afternoon, and if they lose they will play at 10:30 Friday morning.

The Blues will host the San Jose Sharks tonight at 6:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO. The Blues are 4-1 in the last five games at Scottrade Center. This is a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Final that San Jose won in six games over St. Louis.

Signups for all Salem Youth Basketball Leagues are open for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 6th grade now through this Friday at the Salem Administrative Office located at 400 North Iron. Leagues will begin on December 17th and last through January 14th at the Salem High School Gym. The cost is $25 per player. Funeral services for Charles Conrad Jensen of Salem, age 96, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Marines Toys for Tots program.

Funeral services for Frederick Levi “Fred” Capps of Salem, age 78, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held Friday morning from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery on Sunday at 2:00 in Oak Grove, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Love Pack Back Pack Program. 

Funeral services for William A. “Bill” Brewer of Salem, age 95, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #99.

Funeral services for JoAnn Crabtree of Bourbon, age 80, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Turnbough Cemetery in Davisville.
