The City of Salem Planning & Zoning Commission will conduct a meeting, called by Chairman of the Board Jerry Craig, tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 6:00 PM. The Board will approve the July 20, 2015 and October 29, 2015 meeting minutes and then will be the reviewed use for Day Care in residential zone of Nancy Major. The City of Salem Board of Alderman will then conduct their meeting beginning at 7:00 PM. After approval of the agenda and during the hearing of persons, Judy and Davis Pierce want to change the final due date on the utility bills to the 3rd of each month due to fixed incomes. They would also like for the Alderman to lower the reconnection fees. Ms. Karen Bundy will express concern regarding walking trail lights for the walking trail that goes along the old railroad tracks. Then in bids, the City had requested proposals for the Parks and Recreation Services. Only one bid was received and it was from Healthy Dent County and it will be presented to the Board. The City requested bids for interest rates on a lease/purchase agreement for a dump truck and bid in the amount of $76,104. Only one bid was received and it will be presented to the Board. Jerry Craig, Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Commission, will then report on its meeting held prior to the Alderman meeting. City Administrator Ray Walden will then update the Board on various items, issues and projects involving the City of Salem followed by a report by Mayor J.J. Tune. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing contracts and real estate. The meeting of the City of Salem Planning & Zoning Commission followed the City of Salem Board of Alderman are open to the public.

An accident occurred at 11:03 Friday morning in Laclede County on Highway C about six miles south of Lebanon. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by 24-year old David Urton of Licking was traveling eastbound and traveled off the right side of the road. Urton then overcorrected causing the Blazer to begin sliding. The Chevrolet Blazer then traveled off the left side of the road, overturned and then impacted a sign and fence. Urton suffered moderate injuries and was taken by Mercy ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Blazer was totaled and removed from the scene by C&S Towing.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Thursday, November 5th at 10:22 PM a vehicle was stopped for an investigation of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem female on two active warrants from the City of Salem, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was incarcerated on the warrants and pending the application for warrants. On Saturday, November 7th at 12:49 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of South Pershing in reference to a theft.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a rain gage and yard ornaments valued $50.00 from the yard of a residence. The report is under investigation. Later that day at 11:27 PM an officer located a 45-year old male of Salem, near Missouri Highway 32 and Askins who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and released with a new court date after posting bond. That same night at 11:27, a vehicle was stopped for nearly running into several people at Walmart. The   investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 21-year old male of Festus for driving while drugged.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the theft report, is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

At the Salem Fall Sports Banquet held Thursday, team awards were handed out. In football, the team MVP went to Antonio Quick, the Offensive Lineman of the Year Award went to Austin Reed, the Defensive Lineman of the Year Award went to Kyle Hemken, the Offensive back of the Year Award went to Derek McClain, the Defensive Back of the Year Award went to Eli Floyd, the Defensive Player of the Year Award went to Taylor Shipp and the Coaches Award went to Dylan Wisdom.

The Team Awards for Softball were presented by Coach Stanley Crum and he named the team MVP as Camryn Pryor. The Captain’s Award went to Erica Rushing, the Gold Glove Outfielder Award was presented to Shelby Carr, the Gold Glove Infield Award went to Kari Hatridge, the Golden Cleats Award was presented to Payton Curley, the Tiger Award Coaches Award was given to Kirsten Strebe and the Golden Anchor Award went to Bekah Kirker.

Jody Heavin presented the Cheerleading Awards and the Best Stunt Man Award went to Matt Hawkins, the Best Back Award was given to Shawn Pollard, the Top Flyer Award went to Logan Sheppard, the Dancing Diva Award was presented to Sydney Wood, the Most Spirited Award went to Lyndsey Parker, the Buff Base Award was presented to Makenna Farrar and the Best All-Around Award was given to Alex Major.

Jay Cutler had touchdown passes of 83 and 87 yards in the first half and finished with 19-24 for 258 yards and 3 TDs as the Chicago Bears beat the St. Louis Rams, 37-13. The Rams drop to 4-5 and have lost their last two games. They will be at Baltimore next Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs trounced the Denver Broncos 29-13 for their third straight win thanks to a stifling defense that had five interceptions and Cairo Santos had field goals of 48, 49, 34, 33 and 50 yards. Alex Smith capped the onslaught with an 80-yard TD throw to Charcandrick West. Kansas City is now 4-5 and they will be at San Diego next Sunday.

Patrick Kane scored the game winning goal on a power play Saturday night as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Blues, 3-2. Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice for St. Louis who will host Winnipeg tonight at 6:30 on KSMO.

The Missouri Tiger rallied with two fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat BYU, 20-16 at Arrowhead Stadium Saturday. Russell Hansbrough had 117 yards rushing helping the Tigers (5-5) snap a four-game losing streak. Drew Lock threw for 244 yards and the go-ahead TD pass.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers came up with two wins over the weekend beating Wofford Friday night, 83-74, then came back Sunday afternoon and beat Maryland Eastern Shore by the score of 73-55. They will play Xavier Tuesday night.

Funeral services for Shane Ray Canaday of Salem, age 51, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Piatt Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shane Canaday family.
