The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their November meeting Tuesday evening at the fire station. After approval of the minutes from the precious meeting the Board reviewed and approved bills and also reviewed their budget. During a calendar review of upcoming events it was noted the Toy Drive sign up this year will be on Thursdays, December 1st and December 8th. The monthly reimbursement report showed a total of 15 calls for the month that included: two structure fire calls, one brush fire call, two landing zone calls, one first responder call, four calls for a vehicle accident, one call for a fire alarm, two calls for training and two other calls and those were one for a search & rescue and one for a house electrical issue. Year to date the total calls come to 219. There was no old or new business brought before the Board. During reports, it was reported that the brush truck is painted and is being outfitted for use. The water tank is being welded and prepared for installation. Also noted was that fact that Engine #83 is repaired and back in operation. Fire Chief Brad Nash reported on the conference he attended stating that is was very informative and over all a good conference providing many useful ideas that can be used at the department. The Board then set their next meeting for Tuesday, December 6th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. The meeting was then adjourned.

Mark Stauter will give a power point presentation this Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m., at the Salem Pizza Inn courtesy room on the "Ozark Short Line" railroad at the Dent County Historical Society meeting night. The illustrated PowerPoint program will be about efforts to construct a railroad generically known as the "Ozark Short Line" between Rolla and Cabool or Willow Springs during the period of 1910-1914.  The route would have gone through western Dent County (Lecoma, Anutt, and Lenox) and had several corporate lives, but ultimately the project came to naught. Stauter is a retired Missouri Science and Technology Librarian who worked in the Western Historical Collection. His colleague at Missouri S&T, Librarian John Bradbury compiled the power point presentation. The program is free and open to the public. Dinner is on-your-own and starts at 5 p.m. For more information about presenting a program for the Historical Society, contact Deloris Gray Wood, the Dent County Historical Society President at 729-2545.
