The Dent County Sheriff’s Office would like to announce that the new 911 system has been installed and is now operational. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for answering all 911 calls for Dent County as well as dispatching Dent County deputies, four fire departments and the ambulance from the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The installation and transition to the new 911 system, which includes a new mapping system, will help improve response times as well as information available to dispatches. Currently, a location and address will plot on the mapping system when landlines are answered from the new 911. The Sheriff’s Department and CenturyLink are currently working on correcting some of the exchanges on the outer parts of the county. Some of the areas are landlines with Steelville, Montauk, Boss and Bunker exchanges. They currently are able to manually request these areas, however they still may route to adjoining counties. The necessary infrastructure for the networking to route these calls is currently being looked at by the phone companies in those areas. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office is working with cell phone providers to provide the necessary information to receive locations in the coming months. Your emergency address is very important to help responders locate you in the case of an emergency. Please keep your address and information updated with the Rural Addressing Office located at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory.
