An accident occurred Friday evening in Iron County at 7:50 on Route Y about two miles north of Viburnum that took the life of a Bixby woman.  According to the highway patrol report, 27-year old Elizabeth D. Fishburn was killed when the 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier she was driving was struck head-on by a 1998 Dodge truck driven by 56-year old Penny J. Dyer of Steelville. According to the report, the Dodge crossed the centerline and struck the Chevrolet.  The report also stated that neither driver was wearing a safety restraint. Dyer suffered serious injuries and was taken by Air Evac to St. Johns Mercy in Creve Coeur. Fishburn was pronounced dead at the scene by Iron County Coroner Anthony Cole and the body was taken to C. Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Leadwood.  Both vehicles were totaled in the accident.  The Dodge was removed by Blackies Towing and the Chevrolet was removed by Abney’s Towing.

An accident occurred Saturday night at 10:10 on Route O about two miles west of Anutt that took the life of a Salem man. According to the highway patrol report, 59-year old James K. Richardson was a passenger in a 1993 Jeep Cherokee driven by 51-year old Becky L. Siegle of Salem. The report stated that the fatal crash occurred as the Jeep traveled off the right side of the roadway where it struck a wooden post before overturning off of the roadway. According to the report, Richardson was not wearing a safety restraint, while Siegle was wearing hers. Siegle sustained serious injuries and was transported by Salem Ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene by Dent County Coroner Gina White. The Jeep was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

An accident occurred in Phelps County at 5:20 Saturday afternoon on Highway 8 about three miles west of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Dodge Dakota, driven by 30-year old Autumn F. Cannaday of Beach, North Dakota, was westbound in the eastbound lane. In an attempt to avoid the Dodge a 2004 Ford Ranger driven eastbound by 50-yearold James D. Gruver of Steelville, crossed the centerline into the westbound lane. The Dodge then returned to the westbound lane and struck the Ford head-on. All occupants of the Dodge including Cannaday, a 4-year old female, Ambrosiah A. Salamone of Steelville and a 3-year old male, Avery L. Salamone of Steelville, sustained serious injuries. Cannaday was flown by Arch Helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, while both children were flown to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. James Gruver, along with a passenger, 56-year old Janet L. Gruver, both sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center, while she was flown by Arch Helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur. According to the report all occupants were wearing seat restraints. Both vehicles were totaled and the Dodge was removed by Spurgeon’s Towing of St. James, while the Ford was removed by Miles Towing.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving a burglary. On Wednesday, November 2nd the Salem Police Department and the Dent County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Dent County Farm Supply for a report of a burglary. Officers arrived and found that someone had broke the front door to gain entry and stole new Stihl power equipment valued at $11,670. Due to the surveillance footage and the employee’s good eye for detail, a suspect was established. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was deployed and a track was conducted. About an eighth of a mile later on the trail, a good amount of the equipment was located hidden in the woods behind the Dent County Farm Supply. Later that same day, officer’s responded to a home in Roby, Missouri with the assistance of the Texas County Sheriff’s Office. Joseph M. Berry was then taken into custody and placed on a 24-hour old pending the application of warrants. On Thursday, November 3rd a warrant was applied for and Berry remains in custody in the Dent County Jail with bond in the amount of $25,000 for the felony charges and $1,000 for the misdemeanor charges.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00. At the meeting, the City requested bids for a load of Class 2, 30-foot length utility poles and the bid will be presented to the Board. In unfinished business, City Clerk Mary Happel will present her findings on how other municipalities handle construction dumpster rentals that she accumulated from other cities in the area. City of Salem Parks & Recreation Director Tye Lydon and Park Board President Stan Podorski will give a report to the Board on the Parks & Recreation meeting that was held October 20th. City Administrator Ray Walden will update the Board on various issues, items and projects concerning the City of Salem including the City Hall rental policy followed by Mayor Brad Nash and his report. In new and miscellaneous business, it has been found that the Covenants for the Master’s Industrial Park, that were established by the Salem Economic Development Board, were never approved by a vote of the Alderman, nor were they ever recorded. City Attorney William Camm Seay is requesting a discussion on this issue. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

Vladamir Taransenko scored in overtime Saturday night to lead the Blues to a 2-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets with goaltender Carter Hutton earning his second win of the year with an outstanding effort. Jay Bouwmeester, who was saluted before the game Saturday for playing in his 1,000 NHL game, scored the game tying goal in the 3rd period. Then on Sunday, five different Blues scored as the Blues rocked Colorado, 5-1 at the Scottrade Center. Robby Fabbri and Jori Lehtera scored their first goals of the year while Jaden Schwartz, David Perron and Scottie Upshall also scored with Kevin Shattenkirk getting three assists. The Blues will host Chicago Wednesday night.

Nick Foles threw for 187 yards and a first-half touchdown toss to Albert Wilson, and helped to set up four field goals by Cairo Santos, as Kansas City (6-2) won its 10th consecutive home game beating Jacksonville, 19-14. The Chiefs are now 6-2 on the year and they will be at Carolina Sunday.

Freshman quarterback Jake Bentley improved to 3-0 as a starter, throwing for 254 yards and two touchdowns as South Carolina handed Missouri its 11th straight SEC loss, 31-21 on Saturday. Drew Lock threw for 302 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions for Missouri who is 2-7 on the season and 0-5 in the SEC. The Tigers return home to host Vanderbilt next Saturday.

Funeral services for Virginia Louese Tighe, age 78, of Salem will be Wednesday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Macedonia United Baptist Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Danny E. Hunter of Salem, age 64, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until service time Thursday. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery.
