The Dent County Commission met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams came in to inform the Commission the county received an additional assessment check for $10,564 as of October 30th on top of the $123,950 PILT check that was received back in June. In the road reports, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6245, 6505, 6495, 5170 and 5180. He said a crew would be installing a driveway culvert on county road 5510 and brush would be cut on county road 6220. Purcell also said that one man would be hauling brown rock and one man would be doing transmission work on brush cutter #7. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4430 and 4433 while brush would be cut on county road 3330. He went on to say materials would be hauled to Dent County Roads 4020, 2120 and 6160, a tree was being removed from county road 2360, and pipes would be cleaned out on county roads 3180 and 2330. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles once again wanted to qualify the fact that the Goldberg Group Associates is only being paid $10,000 plus any reasonable expenses regarding the preliminary phase in regards to a jail justice center in Salem. The preliminary phase could take some time and that even after that phase is completed; nothing could or would be done without the vote of the people in Dent County. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she balanced with the Dent County Collector and Dent County Assessors offices on monthly collections, abatements and add-ons for the month of October. The Commissioners were reviewing and approving bills, and she continues to work on the Dent County budget for 2016. Curley wanted to remind everyone that the Dent County Courthouse would be closed on Wednesday, November 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
