The Dent County Commission met Thursday morning for their regular meeting in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that no grading was done on Wednesday because grader tires were being replaced. In order to prepare for winter grading, 15 grader tires were replaced. He added that grading would be done and materials would be added to Dent County Roads 4160 and 5070, while grading only would be done on county roads 5440 and 6090. Purcell added that materials would be added to county roads 2490 and 6320, plus brush would be cut on county road 6320. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2340 and 2530, plus brush would be cut on county roads 4430, 4410, 5320 and 5325. He went on to say that materials would be added to county roads 2210, 3225 and 2340. Larson stated that grader #31 was being serviced and a crossover pipe and a driveway pipe were being installed on county roads 2210 and 3225. He said that on Tuesday he and Sam Gorman checked and started the generator at Oak Grove Church and that the diesel should be brought up to 75%. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he, along with MRPC’s Bonnie Prigge and Tammy Snodgrass, continue to work to make sure that the final report on the Meramec Watershed accurately reflects that the problems identified are those that concern the lower Meramec and not the upper Meramec. He said that we can’t allow the upper to be lumped in with the problems of the lower watershed where urbanization problems are negatively affecting the Meramec River. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that voters can still make address changes as well as pick up sample ballots in her office. She said that absentee voting continues through November 7th and that her office will be open Saturday from 8:00 am until noon for absentee voting. Curley went on to say that anyone with questions about polling locations can call her office at (573) 729-4144 and that the polls will be open Tuesday from 6:00 am until 7:00 pm. She noted that bills were being approved by the Commissioners for payment. Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley was in to discuss a pending budget issue. He said that Julie Strebe would probably be out the rest of the year and that county employees had donated enough sick leave hours to take her to the end of the year. He said his office can’t do it’s job without someone in her position and that he has part- time employees to cover for the time being. Curley said he will review the situation and develop a plan to propose to the Commissioners within a week or two. The Commissioners indicated that they would do whatever was needed concerning the situation. Bids were opened for propane with Ferrell Gas bidding $1.14 per gallon for 3,500 gallons and MFA Oil bidding $1.12 for the same amount. The Commissioners will make a decision once some more information is obtained. Mike Flood of Uni- First, a uniform company, was in to present information about his company’s prices. Curt Faigle of the 100-Acre Wood Rally was by to share information about the rally. He said the rally will be March 17th and 18th and that they would like to move off the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, but their Forest Service Permit is for those dates and it would take at least six month’s to obtain a new permit. Faigle said that last year there were 63 or 64 entries, but they are expecting the number to be down due to some splintering of some rally groups. The next regular meeting of the Commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 in the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

Fall has arrived and it is that time of year to gain an extra hour of sleep as time changes this weekend. You can either set your clock back one hour before going to bed Saturday night or Sunday morning when you get up. This is also a good time to change those batteries out in your smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors.
