The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday for their regular meeting in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6220, 6370 and 2400, while brush would be cut on county road 5170. He added that a two man crew was changing the front tires plus working on the exhaust and light problems on truck #117. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4400, 4380 and 3050, while materials would be added to county road 2380. He went on to say that truck #115 had alternator and battery problems that were being worked on. Larson added that he had a man cleaning out leaves blocking bridges and crossovers on county roads 3180 and 2380. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that Tuesday evening he attended the GRO meeting where the group is working on a variety of issues including streetscape, dilapidated housing, business succession, plus community outreach and engagement through media, the internet, etc. Skiles said that an immediate issue is developing the internship program with Salem High School. The program goal is to have 20 students as interns at businesses during the second semester of this school year. Skiles said that any business interested should contact High School Principal Marty Anderson or RayWalden at the Salem Administrative Offices. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reminded voters the voting machines would be tested this morning at 9:00. She went on to say that there had been nearly 500 absentee votes cast. Jan Farthing of the Salvation Army Board was in to discuss the courthouse signup for bell ringing. The Commissioners agreed upon the selection of Friday, November 25th. The next regular meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 in the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The First Annual Ozark Triple Crown fishing tournament organized by The Ozarks Kings will be this Sunday starting at 6:00 in the morning on the Cedar Grove Bridge. The Ozarks Triple Crown tournament is the group’s ultimate challenge for Ozark fishermen, requiring them to catch a Brown Trout, Small Mouth Bass and Rainbow Trout, all within the tournament’s hours. The tournament has permits that allow teams to fish anywhere between Tan Vat and Pulltite, and all Missouri Department of Conservation rules and regulations must be followed. Points in the tournament will be awarded for each type of fish caught as well as for the length of the fish caught at one point per inch. Only the largest fish caught of each species garners points. Rainbow Trout caught are worth three points, a Brown Trout is worth six points and a Small Mouth Bass is worth 10 points. Anglers that catch all three species will be awarded 20 points for achieving the Ozarks Triple Crown. Teams must bring digital pictures back to the Montauk Lodge by 3:00 PM to be judged that shows the length and type of fish caught. Camera SD cards are preferred for documentation of what you caught, so they can be easily downloaded onto the judge’s laptop. Pictures taken and emailed from camera phones are acceptable provided you can find Internet service. The tournament’s ending ceremony will be at the Mill Shelter at Montauk once all pictures have been submitted. Winners can win Visa Money cards and Ozark Kings merchandise and trophies. The Ozark Kings are dedicated to promoting the culture and recreational opportunities of the Ozarks. The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their November meeting on Tuesday, November 1st at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM. After approval of the agenda and a review of the minutes from previous meetings, the Board will then review financial reports, approve bills and take a look at their upcoming calendar of events at the station. The Board will review the monthly reimbursement report for October and address any old or new business and will be updated by various reports. The Board will then set their next meeting for Tuesday, December 6th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm.

Salem Lady Softball Tigers Kari Hatridge and Camryn Pryor were selected for the Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Association (MHSFCA) Senior Showcase this Saturday in Columbia. Congratulations Kari and Camryn!

Henrik Zetterberg scored in the eighth round of a shootout to give the Detroit Red Wings a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night. Zetterberg’s goal gave the Red Wings a six-game winning streak and the Blues have lost two straight at home. The Blues will host the LA Kings Saturday night at 6:30 on KSMO Radio.

The Missouri Tigers will host Kentucky Saturday at 11:00 AM and you can hear the game on KSMO. Missouri is 2-5 going into the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be at Indianapolis Sunday to face the Colts. The Chiefs are 4-2 in the year and are in 3rd place in their division.

The City of Salem Youth Basketball League signups for all boys and girls in Kindergarten thru 6th grade is going on now through November 18th at the Salem Administrative Office located at 400 North Iron. Leagues will be held December 17th & 31st and January 7th and 14th at the Salem High School Gym. The cost is $25 per player. A funeral mass for James Anthony Finazzo of Rolla, age 67, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Interment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis. Funeral services for Donald Ray Hyde of Viburnum, age 61, will be held today at 12:00 noon at the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Private interment will be in the Fayette City Cemetery in Fayette. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Connor Edward Flint of Rolla, infant, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Kathy Fern Sliger Knudson of Rolla, age 83, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 today at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cavaness Cemetery in Licking.

Funeral services for Maxine Mae White of Salem, age 92, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Phelps County Regional Homecare and Hospice.

Funeral services for Dorothy Lee Light of Newburg, age 82, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Garden. Memorials are suggested to the Philadelphia Baptist Church.
