The Salem Police Department released reports involving theft of fuel, theft from a storage unit, a parole violation and credit card fraud. On Saturday, October 15th at 1:38 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to Casey's General Store located on Highway 32 East in reference a theft of fuel. The report revealed the driver of a red Chevrolet truck with a camper in the bed, pumped fuel valued at $30.00 and left without paying. Later that day at 1:53 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Classic Joy Ride storage sheds on Craig industrial Drive in reference to a theft from a unit. The report revealed someone unknown took tools, fishing equipment and a trumpet all valued at $820.00 from a storage unit. On Sunday, October 16th at 5:15 PM, an officer attempted to serve an arrest warrant for a parole violation at a residence in the 700 block of North Hickory. The suspect fled on foot towards the Bonebrake Center. With the assistance of the Dent County K-9 Unit, the suspect was located and taken into custody on the warrant for possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. The suspect was incarcerated pending a court appearance and the application of warrants. On Monday, October 17th at 4:40 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to credit card fraud. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown hacked a credit card account and stole $825.68 through fraudulent purchases.  Please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242 if you have any information regarding an investigation ongoing.

An accident occurred at 9:29 Tuesday night in Phelps County on I-44 at the 190 mile marker. According to the highway patrol report, a 2014 Freightliner tractor trailer driven by 57-year old Larry Hayes was avoiding an animal in the road when he struck a deer. The tractor trailer then ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned. Hayes was partially ejected and suffered serious injuries and was life flighted to University Hospital in Columbia. The Freightliner tractor trailer was totaled and removed from the scene by I-44 Towing.

An accident occurred at 4:40 in the afternoon on Monday, October 17th on Highway 32 at Water Street in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 1998 GMC Jimmy driven by Mary Williams of Lenox was traveling west on Highway 32 and was stopped in traffic due to congestion for a traffic light at Highway 19. A 2011 Ford F-450 driven by Jeffrey Smith of Licking was traveling west on Highway 32 and was stopped in traffic due to congestion for a traffic light at highway 19. A 1996 Chevrolet 3500 driven by Harold Martin of Salem was traveling west on highway 32 approaching Water Street. The Chevrolet 3500 struck the GMC Jimmy causing the GMC to strike the Ford F-450. No injuries were reported. The Chevrolet 3500 sustained extensive damage as did the GMC Jimmy and both were towed from the scene. The Ford F-450 sustained minor damage.

The Missouri Department of Insurance is encouraging Missourians eligible for Medicare to review their plan options and costs during this year's open enrollment. To help Missouri consumers choose a plan that best meets their needs, the department offers free assistance through the CLAIM program. CLAIM provides unbiased help to Missourians on Medicare and their caregivers. Now through December 7th, consumers can change their Part D drug coverage or Medicare Advantage plans. Missouri consumers can ask questions by phone or arrange one-on-one counseling by calling 1-800-390-3330 or visiting missouriclaim.org. The website also offers a list of free open enrollment events that CLAIM is hosting throughout Missouri during open enrollment. CLAIM can also assist consumers, who have limited income, determine if they qualify for programs to help lower the cost of prescription drugs. Consumers with complaints or questions about insurance can call the department's Insurance Consumer Hotline at 1-800-726-7390 or visit insurance.mo.gov.

An accident occurred at 6:35 Wednesday morning in Phelps County on the north Outer Road just west of Route V in Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Volkswagon Passet driven by 18-year old Kerri McLallen of Springfield was traveling westbound on the wrong side of the roadway. The Volkswagon met oncoming traffic, swerved to the right and then struck a ditch and overturned. McLallen and a passenger, 18-year old Cally Chisholm of Springfield, both suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. Everyone involved was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Volkswagon Passat sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by C&C Towing of Rolla. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Rolla Police Department, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, the Rolla Fire Department and the Phelps County EMS.

The St. Louis Blues will try to recover from their loss Tuesday night to Calgary as they face the Detroit Red Wings tonight at the Scottrade Center starting at 6:30 on KSMO Radio.

The City of Salem Youth Basketball League signups for all boys and girls in Kindergarten thru 6th grade is going on now through November 18th at the Salem Administrative Office located at 400 North Iron. Leagues will be held December 17th & 31st and January 7th and 14th at the Salem High School Gym. The cost is $25 per player. A funeral mass for James Anthony Finazzo of Rolla, age 67, will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 today at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials are suggested to the Backstoppers.

Funeral services for Donald Ray Hyde of Viburnum, age 61, will be held Friday at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Private interment will be in the Fayette City Cemetery in Fayette. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Connor Edward Flint of Rolla, infant, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Kathy Fern Sliger Knudson of Rolla, age 83, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Friday at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cavaness Cemetery in Licking.

Funeral services for Maxine Mae White of Salem, age 92, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday night. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Phelps County Regional Homecare and Hospice.

Funeral services for Lloyd Hedrick of Belleview, age 83, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00. Interment will be in the Upper Indian Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lloyd Hedrick Family.
