The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams reported that CART receipts for October were $61,289.44, and year-to-date, the CART receipts are up $29,155.52 or an increase of 5.45 percent. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6370, 6410, 5530, and 2440, while patch grading would be done on county road 6090. He went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 6200 and 6210. Purcell added that two men would be hauling brown rock and one man would be screening it. Road Supervisor Sam Gorman was in to give the report for District II in Commissioner Gary Larson’s absence. Gorman said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2120, 2090, 3120, 4060, 4283, 4285, and 4287. Gorman added that brush would be cut on county roads 3220 and 4430 and that materials would be added to county roads 3170 and 2090. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said last Thursday he attended the Region I Homeland Security Oversight Committee meeting in St. James where Tabitha Stanfast, SMDH Director of Emergency Services, was installed as the new chairman of the Committee. He said that the main order of business was to appoint a committee that would be working with the state to standardize credentials for emergency responders so badges would be a standard size and color coded to reflect what agency responders were representing. Skiles attending the public meeting in West Plains Monday about the proposed new state park in Oregon County that was called by Lt. Governor Peter Kinder.  Skiles also attending the National Park Service public meeting in Eminence to give input on the Roads and Trails Management Plan and Environmental Assessment for the Ozark National Riverways. Skiles encourages river users to attend the National Park Service meeting at Salem City Hall Auditorium Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and voice their opinions, especially on keeping roads and trails to the rivers maintained and open for public access. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that phone bids were being taken for 1,000 gallons of gasoline.  Commissioner Purcell added that he would be attending the NPS Roads and Trails meeting in Eminence Monday evening as well. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred Saturday afternoon at 1:30 in Dent County on Route NN about nine miles south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Chevrolet Astro Van, driven by 43-year old Jeremy J. Espanio of Salem, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck several large rocks. A passenger, 36- year old Sarah A. McGraw of Salem, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Salem Memorial District Hospital by personal vehicle, while Espanio suffered no injuries. According to the report, both McGraw and Espanio were wearing their seat restraints. The Chevrolet was left at the scene to be removed by the owner.

An accident happened Sunday evening in Dent County at the junction of Highway 32 and 72 at 9:30. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Ford F-250 driven eastbound by 44-year old Barbie J. Meade of Salem, turned into the path of a 2013 Dodge Charger driven westbound by 27-year old Gregory Moravec of Salem. The Ford struck the Dodge in the side causing damage to the driver’s side door, fender and front end.  Moravec, who was wearing his seat restraint, suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. 

This past Sunday, Dent County deputies were traveling on Highway 68 when a female identified as 22-year old Mackenzie Bowen of Salem was spotted at a residence in the 1700 block of Highway 68. Bowen had been avoiding law enforcement due to two felony warrants for her arrest. Deputies went to the residence and Bowen was seen fleeing to the rear of a garage. Deputies went into the garage and Bowen was found hiding behind some mattresses. Bowen was taken into custody without incident. Bowen is being held in the Dent County Jail on a Capias warrant for Forgery and a Capias warrant for Escaping Confinement.

The Salem Police Department has released some reports. On Friday, October 16th at 3:28 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 26-year old male and a 24-year old female both of Salem for possession of methamphetamine. The two suspects were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Saturday, October 17th at 6:28 in the evening, an officer was sent to a residence in the 600 block of South Jackson in reference to a domestic disturbance.  The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 35-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Monday, October 19th at 9:32 AM an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter.  The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for stealing merchandise valued $16.88.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that night at 6:49 an officer was detailed to back Walmart in reference a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued $30.14.  She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. The St. Louis Blues will host the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at Scottrade Center starting at 7:00. You can hear the pre-game show at 6:30 on KSMO Radio. The injury riddled Blues have lost two straight.

The World Series begins tonight in Kansas City with Matt Harvey on the mound for New York and Edinson Volquez on the hill for Kansas City. Game time will be at 7:07 on the Fox Network

The Salem Football Tigers will be at Ava for the second round of District play Friday night at 7:00. The admission to the game is $4.00 for persons six years of age and above, $3.00 for students.

Funeral Services for Herman Preston Asher, age 80, of Bixby will be today at 2:00 P.M at the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel. Interment will be in the Crocker-Stricklin Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Jesse Leroy “Lee” Geary of Salem, age 78, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Wednesday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Shepherd’s Nook.

Funeral services for Herbert Charles Happel of Salem, age 91, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
