The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4210, 5520, 6040 and 6460 while crews will be installing crossover pipes on county road 5680. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2530 and 2533 while materials would be added and grading done on county road 2515. He also said crews were working on Public Road 401 where materials were being added, and once finished Larson will get with Rural Addressing to establish the new road number. He mentioned that brush would be cut on county roads 5250 and 5280, and Larson wanted people to know they can call him if they see a problem with their road as that’s his job. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that 15 people from Dent County attended the MRPC Awards Dinner last Thursday at the Belle-Bland Community Center. Josh Sirois was the lone awards recipient from Dent County getting an award in the Youth Volunteer Category. He was not able to make the banquet and the award was given to his parents: Michelle and Bernie Sirois. Tonight, Skiles will be attending a GRO workshop at the ONCRC. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said the last day to mail out an absentee ballot will be Wednesday and her office will be holding the public testing of the voting machines this Friday at 9:00. She also wanted to remind everyone that no electioneering can be done within 25 feet of the courthouse and no selfies are allowed to be taken with your cell phone of you and your ballot. Doing so is a misdemeanor. Carley Esser with Missouri Farmers Care came in with Tom Strain from Rolla to ask Dent County to become a Agri-Ready County. She said Missouri Farmers Care was started about six years ago and they are supported by 36 agribusinesses and organizations. Not only do they award the Agri-Ready county designations, they also provide a program called “Ag Education on the Move” that allows presenters to interact with 3rd graders in schools introducing them to agricultural interests. The “Race to the Plate” was held at Busch Stadium on Friday night St. Louis Cardinal games this past year and the mascots would meet with children before the game and after their 4th inning race. The Agri-Ready designation does not cost Dent County anything, it is totally voluntary and it is renewed on an annual basis. Four roadside plaques can be placed on private property to announce the association and a larger plaque is given to the commission. To comply with Agri-Ready guidelines, the commission cannot have any health or zoning ordinances that discourage, limit or restrict agricultural operations as well as not apply definitions to agricultural operations that are more stringent than state laws or regulations amongst some other guidelines. After some discussion, the commission approved applying for the Agri-Ready designation with the Missouri Farmers Care. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
