The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors met for the regular meeting Tuesday evening at the hospital library. Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus gave the summary of operations for September that showed inpatient admissions and outpatient registrations being up for the month, but the length of stay was way down. The hospital had a loss from operations of $167,432 with an excess of expenses over revenues of $164,074. During the month, the cash flow statement showed a reduction in cash of $319,970. Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks reported during the month there were 62 acute care admissions, 816 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 121 minutes. Also during the month, there were 201 ambulance runs with 203 patients being assessed and 163 patients transported to the hospital, 30 surgery cases, 1,823 outpatient registrations, 168 home health visits, 11,117 lab tests, 1,021 radiological procedures, 193 CT scans, 32 MRI scans, 4 nuclear med scans, 421 rehab treatments, 194 dialysis treatments and 333 clinical visits of which 168 were for podiatry. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor stated the Hospital Auxiliary met this month with 8 members attending. A Linen Sale will be held November 12th & 13th at the Dent County Fire Station. Their next meeting will be November 3rd at noon at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. Pryor said Dr. Michael Klein, MD (Cardiology) will begin conducting a clinic in November at the hospital with Dr. Higano. Assistant Administrator Kasey Lucas gave the Electronic Medical Records report. The hospital continues to get physicians set up on the new CPOE program and they will be submitting their Meaningful Use Stage 2 by the end of November as they have met the requirements. The MEDHOST version upgrade will be conducted on November 4th and 5th. Pryor reported the dates for the Health Fair in 2016 will be February 10th and 11th, May 11th and 12th, and September 14th and 15th at the Salem Community Center@The Armory. Last year, there were a total of 1,093 people that attended the health fairs. The Foundation Program Dinner was held October 8th with $6,420 raised for the Emergency Room. The SMDH Foundation 5K Fun Run will be held November 7th at Montauk State Park with a $25 entry fee with the proceeds to benefit the Jean B. Weaver Dialysis Unit.  The walk/run starts at 9:00 and the entry fee includes a T-Shirt, goody bag and medal. Mary Lou Brooks reported that a committee is working on the Community Health Needs Assessment that will have 19 questions this year. Paper copies will be available at 27 locations soon and will also be available online at SMDH.net. Kasey Lucas reported on an Ozark Independent Health Training held at the Salem Hospital that focused on admission from the Emergency Room to Acute Care. Salem had 89 steps that it would take for the admission process, but after the training, that number was reduced to 48. Lucas said a speech therapy demo and test will be held October 28th between the Salem Hospital and Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The board approved the CFO, CNO, Administrator and Assistant Administrator to use a new credit card after January 1st that will generate income for the hospital when used. The board also approved the leasing of a NuMed Nuclear Medicine dual head machine for a minimum of $4,000 per month. The board approved the purchase of a new CPSI Server and Storage unit as the storage unit could no longer be serviced after November, and the Server would no longer by serviced after March. The cost of the machine is $56,600 that would require a 10% down payment with six equal installments to follow. It would be installed in about three weeks or so. The board then went into closed session.

The public is invited to enjoy a “Haunting in the Mill” at Montauk State Park. Family-friendly tours will be held at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 24th at the Montauk Mill. Visitors will get to experience a unique night-time tour of the historic Montauk Mill, located across the road from the picnic shelter. Volunteers and park staff, dressed in historical costumes, will help history come to life. The first 80 guests will be allowedin for each tour, which is offered free of charge. Visitors are encouraged to wear warm clothes while they wait outside for the tour. Hot chocolate and an old-fashioned treats will be provided to children. The Dent County 4-H members are holding their Annual Recognition Night program on Saturday, beginning at 5:30 PM at the Indian Trail Archery on Highway 19 North. The program begins with a dinner. The Salem Football Tigers will host St. James Tigers tonight at 7:00 at the SHS Football Field. Admission to the game will be $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. The game can be heard on KSMO Radio, ksmoradio.com starting at 6:30 with Tiger Talk and Coach Brian McNamee. The game will be recorded and played back on Fidelity Local 6 following the “Game of the Week” tonight. UPDATE: Salem won the game 14-6.

The St. Louis Blues will host the New York Islanders Saturday starting at 7:00. You can hear the pre-game show on KSMO at 6:30.

The Missouri Football Tigers will be at Vanderbilt starting at 1:00 Saturday. Missouri enters the game with a 4-3 record. You can hear the game on KSMO

The Kansas City Royals will host the Toronto Blue Jays in Game Six of the ALCS tonight starting at 7:00. The Royals lead the series 3 games to 2. Yordano Ventura goes for the Royals against David Price of the Blue Jays. UPDATE: KC won, 4-3. The Royals and New York Mets will play Tuesday night in Game 1 of the World Series.

Funeral services for Dale L. Halcomb of Salem, age 81, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Lake Spring Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Iva Halcomb Family.

Funeral services for Lois Baraba (nee Chandler) of St. Louis, age 76, will be held Saturday at 12:00 noon at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Saturday form 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Shoal Creek Cemetery in Berryman, Missouri.

Funeral services for Carl Lee “Bud” Davis of Viburnum, age 86, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Viburnum. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum. Interment will be private at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Viburnum.

Funeral services for Bernard Carl Faulkner of Bixby, age 88, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the Viburnum Christian Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in  Viburnum, with a Masonic service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Viburnum Christian Church of Boss Cemetery.

Funeral Services for Herman Preston Asher, age 80, of Bixby will be Tuesday at 2:00 P.M at the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in the Crocker-Stricklin Cemetery with full Military Honors.
