The Dent County Commissioners met Monday for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5600 and 5610 while materials would be added and spot grading done on county road 2460. He reported brush would be cut on county road 6505, one man would be hauling brown rock while another would be screening it at the shop. District II Commissioner Gary Larson reported the roads crews would be adding materials and putting up signs as they will be closing county road 4280 again for work to be done. Larson also indicated brush would be cut on county roads 5300 and 6160. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he and Commissioners Gary Larson and Dennis Purcell attended the South Central County Commissioners meeting with a number of state representatives present as well as a representative from Jason Smith’s office. They heard about the increase in reimbursement to counties from the Missouri Department of Conservation for forest cropland from 50 cents per acre to 75 cents per acre. There was also discussion on health insurance alternatives and more. Skiles also wanted to remind everyone with the dry conditions to refrain from all typesof burning due to low humidity and higher winds expected. County Clerk Angie Curley reported on the South Central County Clerk’s meeting where voting issues were discussed including photo ID’s, the military and overseas voting portal and more. Bonnie Prigge from the MRPC and engineer Preston Cramer from MoDOT attended the meeting to review the transportation needs for Dent County. They went over the list of different routes from the previous year to see if any of those priorities changed or were addressed, and add new priorities the commissioners feel need attention. Although this exercise does identify numerous transportation needs in Dent County, currently there are no funds available to rectify the problems. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released reports involving property damage and a traffic stop. On Tuesday, October 13th deputies were dispatched to Private Lane 601 for a report of property damage. After speaking with the reporting party and caretaker, it was discovered about $900 worth of damage had been done to the home by a person or persons unknown. Then on Sunday, October 18th, deputies held a traffic stop on East Third Street in Salem. The driver, identified as 27-year old Jon Little of Mountain View, was arrested for driving while having his license revoked as a result of the stop. Little was incarcerated in the Dent County Jail and later was released pending a court appearance. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage report is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-4231.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their October meeting tonight at the hospital library beginning at 6:00 PM. Before the regular meeting, the board will receive the audit report from Eddie Marmouget and Jean Nyberg from BKD, LLP out of Springfield. The board will then hear the summary of operations and statistics reports for September followed by the CNO report. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will then updated the Board with an auxiliary report, legislative updates and the patient satisfaction survey results. In old business, the Board will address the 2011 strategic planning goals update, the Community Health Needs Assessment, the Ozark Independent Health Alliance (OIHA) and the annual bylaw review. During new business the Board will address any new purchases. The Board may then vote to go into closed session. The meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Football Tigers finished the year 4-5 and ended up as the 3rd seed in district and will host St. James Friday night at 7:00 at the SHS Football Field. Admission to the game will be $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. The game can be heard on KSMO, ksmoradio.com and recorded for Fidelity Local 6.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers season came to an end Monday night, losing two games against Owensville. The Lady Tigers finish their season with 1-24-2 record.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Montreal to wrap up their Canadian swing as they face the Canadiens tonight starting at 6:00 on KSMO. The Blues have won four games in a row.

Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson each homered in a six-run third inning, and Toronto's bats broke out at home for an 11-8 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night that trimmed the Blue Jays' deficit to 2-1 in the AL Championship Series. The Royals rallied for four runs in the ninth, Roberto Osuna closed it out. The Royals will play Toronto today at 3:07.

Funeral services for Vinita Arlean Edwards, age 87, will be at 11:00 Wednesday morning at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 this evening. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. 

Funeral services Raymond Paul Rubczak of Rolla, age 30, will be held at 11:00 Thursday morning at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James. Visitation will be held at the James and Gahr Mortuary Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 PM. Interment will be held at the Rolla Cemetery in Rolla.

Funeral services for Mabel Asher of Bixby, age 87, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday. Interment will be in the Crocker-Stricklin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Crocker-Stricklin Cemetery.

Funeral services for Bennie Smith III, age 51, will be Thursday afternoon at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to service from 11:30 until service time Thursday, There will be no interment.
