The Dent County Commission met Monday morning at the courthouse. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles provided some details to the contract signed last Thursday with Shive-Hattery on a new jail/justice center. This will be a three phase project starting with a feasibility study of rehabbing the current jail and offices, plus also do a facility assessment to address needs like courtrooms, jail, offices etc. After that, the planning, design and layout phase will give the commissioners an idea of what they are looking at before the final phase of putting together a public awareness campaign begins. The contract calls for a cost of $40,000 plus other limited expenses for this pre-bond service. If the project moves forward, $20,000 of the original cost will go toward the project final cost plus Shive-Hattery will get 8% of the project cost or $999,000 whichever is higher. They are looking to have some information to the commission by December. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5610, 4080 and 6080. He said crossove pipes would be installed on county road 5610 in preparation of the Title 2 Road Improvement Project that will cost between $16,000 and $17,000. Purcell said he would be attending the South Central Community Action Agency Committee meeting today and updated his report from Thursday on the Water Study by the University of Missouri to accumulate an inventory of Missouri water sources and how agriculture will be affected by year 2060. He said he spoke with Representative Jeff Pogue about the funding of this project and wanted to know where the money was coming from beside the $300,000 from the Soil and Water Districts. Sam Gorman gave the District 2 road report for Commissioner Larson who was absent due to a sick family member. He said grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2050, 3190, 3270, 3273, 3275 and 4437. He said brush would be cut on county roads 2550 and 2560 and brown rock was being hauled in from the creek. Curley said people still have time to come in with an address change or if they want to pick up a sample ballot. There are numerous ballot issues that people can read before they get to the polls and the sample ballots are free and available at the courthouse.
