The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Circuit Clerk Becky Swiney was in to discuss some courtroom chairs needing replacement and what budget the purchase should come from. Presiding Commissioner Skiles noted that if she still has equipment dollars in her budget that would be where the purchase should come from, but if not it would come from general revenue. Swiney was asked how many chairs needed to be replaced. She indicated that probably 10 of the estimated 30 chairs are in need of replacement. The Commissioners agreed that they would like Swiney to check about availability of chairs from various sources including State Surplus and also to avoid models that are being discontinued so matching ones would be available for future replacement. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2410 and 6050, while brush would be cut on county roads 6495 and 6505. He went on to say that materials would be added to county roads 6020 and 5080, a man would be hauling brown rock and a man would be screening brown rock. Purcell noted that Tuesday he attended the South Central Missouri Community Action Agency meeting in Winona. The Agency serves Dent and seven other counties. He said that funding is available for home weatherization, plus the Home Energy Assistance Program is still in place. Income guidelines apply to both programs and that interested parties should contact Sarah Givens at (573) 729-3500, Extension 10. District II Commissioner Gary Larson said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5300. He noted that he had two men repairing brush cutter #4, two men hauling materials to county road 4280, and two men hauling brown rock. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that last Thursday he attended the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting in St. James where he learned that due to increased sales tax receipts on vehicles and increased fuel tax receipts MoDOT unexpectedly has several million dollars for FY2017. However, he had also learned that even though the TAC Committee had made the construction of a bridge on Highway TT over Crooked Creek near Sligo as their #1 priority, the State Highway Commission has ruled it out and set other priorities. Skiles noted that MRPC Executive Director Bonnie Prigge and MoDOT District Engineer Preston Kramer will be visiting the Commission on October 19th and he plans to ask if the TAC Committee should ask the Highway Commission what their priorities are before TAC sets its priorities so as to save valuable TAC time and efforts. Skiles noted that Tuesday he and landowners Bobby Simpson, James Crocker and Bob Parsons attended the Upper Meramec Watershed meeting in St. James. He went on to say that additional meetings are planned for December in Sullivan and next spring in St. James. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that bills were being reviewed by the Commissioners and approved for payment. She added that approximately 1,500 voter registration cards have been returned to her office as undeliverable and if voters have not received their cards they need to contact her office at (573) 729-4144 to correct their address. Obtaining the correct voter registration card must be done before the next election day. Curley noted that she and the Commissioners would be attending the South Central Commissioners and South Central County Clerks meetings in Houston today. Jack Todd of Victor Heating and Cooling was in to discuss the bid for supplemental heating and cooling of the Dent County Collector’s Office. Commissioner Larson asked what the outside appearance would be. Todd said that there are similar units on the back of the Moody Real Estate Office and the Dent County Sheriff’s office dispatch area. Skiles asked if there was anything that could be done to the duct work and or the thermostat to improve the conditions in that office. Todd said that he would have to inspect the duct work and that the thermostat should be upgraded. Curley noted that all the offices on the south side have similar heating and cooling problems. The Commissioners agreed that they want Todd to investigate the duct work before a decision is made on the Collector’s Office bid. Greg and Jason Rowden of County Fuels in Eminence were in to indicate that they would like the opportunity to bid on the Road and Bridge Department fuel needs. The Rowden’s have very recently purchased property in Salem and hope to have a bulk plant built on the site by spring. The Rowden’s currently have bulk plants in Eminence, Ellington and Van Buren, and will be selling bulk road and off road diesel, as well as premium and regular gasoline. Jim Kotschedoff was in to let the Commissioners know he would like to purchase the desk that was previously discussed from ABS for $489.00. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday at 9:00 AM and the meeting is open to the public.
