The Missouri Department of Conservation will be holding a surplus property auction Saturday starting at 10:00 in the morning at the Salem Maintenance Center at the junction of Highway 32 and 72 west of Salem. The auction will include boats, outboard motors, tractors, dozers, office equipment, camera equipment, farm equipment, vehicles and more. A complete lot listing and terms of the sale will be available at the registration desk Saturday. Pre-registration will be held tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. while registration the day of the sale begins at 7:30 a.m. People can view the sale items on Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Buyers can pay for their items with cash, credit card, debit card, personal check or cashier's check with your presentation of your personal identification. A convenience fee will be charged to all customers who wish to pay by credit or debit card. According to state statute, state agencies can no longer pay for these fees. The fees go to the state's credit card processing vendor, not the Missouri Department of Conservation. Please read the Public Auction Procedures before planning to attend the auction to review all rules and restrictions. The Innovate Ozarks 2015 conference in Salem on Friday, October 23rd sponsored by City of Salem Economic Development, Fidelity Communications, and Modern Woodmen of America, will give participants the chance to learn about new trends and opportunities with tourism and entrepreneurship as part of two keynote addresses focused on what these economic strategies are contributing to our local, state and regional economies. Keynote speakers including Stephen Foutes from the Missouri Division of Tourism will discuss the role tourism plays in Missouri’s economy, and Steve Devlin from the University Extension who will give an overview of ways the University of Missouri and MU Extension support economic development, entrepreneurship and local communities. Participants will choose from breakout sessions including business planning for emergencies, customer service, workplace wellness, social media marketing, supervision 101 and business succession planning. Regional businesses are invited to attend this one-day professional development training close to home as the conference will be 8:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. on Friday, October 23 at Salem Community Center @ the Armory located at 1200 W. Rolla Road in Salem. A $40 registration fee includes all materials and lunch. The registration deadline is October 20. The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their October meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 PM. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent John McColloch will update the Board with the September membership count. There will be an MSBA/MASA annual conference update as well as an update on the budget. Principals will then give reports on various happenings from the respective buildings. In new business the Board will address the Academic Probation Policy and address MSBA 2015 C policy updates. The Board may then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The October meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Missouri Office of Administration is now accepting management contract bids for the Viburnum License Office. Bids will be evaluated on areas such as expertise of the personnel proposed, methods proposed for performing the services and whether the individual or entity is a not-for-profit political subdivision, a Missouri Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) or a Missouri Service-Disabled Veteran Enterprise. In fiscal year 2015, more than 5,000 transactions were conducted at the Viburnum office, generating $18,448 in agent processing fees. Interested individuals and groups must submit their bids to operate the Viburnum License Office by October 28th. The Naturally Meramec Regional Consortium will hold it’s second meeting on Tuesday, October 20th at the MRPC office located at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The focus at this meeting will be marketing and a discussion on a website that will market all agriculture/tourism/culinary businesses. Bonnie Prigge and Lyle Thomas will present information on all aspects of marketing, including customers, strategies and planning. Connie Willman will then lead a discussion on website elements and participants will be asked to complete a survey about their businesses in order to determine needs of specific businesses and potential marketing opportunities. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers are seeded 8th in Class 3, District 8 and they will be facing Owensville on Monday, October 19th at 6:15 at Owensville. If Salem would win that contest, they would play the winner of the St. James and Union match on Tuesday at 6:15. All the matches will be at the Owensville gym.

The Blues will continue their Canadian trip as they travel to Edmonton to face the Oilers tonight starting at 8:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Johnny Cueto delivered a masterpiece on his biggest stage yet, pitching eight dominant innings Wednesday night and leading the never-say-die Kansas City Royals to a 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros and back to the American League Championship Series. The defending AL champs will host the Toronto Blue Jays in Game one on Friday night.

Funeral services for Stanley Paul Johns of Salem, age 51, will be held today at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to DCAWS.

Funeral services for Tressie Esther Barton of Linn, age 93, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. A Memorial services will be held at 2:00 on Monday, October 19th at the Linn Living and Rehab in Linn, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Dale Ives of Weldon Springs, formerly of Steelville, age 80, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time Saturday. Interment will be in the Schwieder Cemetery in Steelville with full military honors.

A Celebration of Life Service for Neil Eugene Maricle of St. James, age 82, will be held Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home.
