Each year Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) honors residents of the Meramec Region who give to their communities by volunteering their time, talents and support. This year, 11 volunteers, including two youths and two community organizations, will be honored at the 2016 MRPC Annual Dinner celebration Oct. 20 at the Belle-Bland Community Center in Belle. From Dent County, Josh Sirois will be honored for with a Youth Leadership Award. Other counties representatives will also be honored and the Eugene E. Northern award, the highest honor given by MRPC for volunteers and community service, will also be announced at the annual dinner. The award recipient is kept a secret until announced at the Annual Dinner. The public is invited to attend the event at the Belle-Bland Community Center at Belle. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include a silent auction and exhibits. Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a program and awards presentation to follow. Tickets for the event will cost $25. For reservations, contact MRPC at 573-265-2993. The deadline for reservations is Thursday, October 13th.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their October meeting on Tuesday night at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM. After approval of the agenda there will be a review of the minutes from the previous meeting. The Board will review financial reports and approve bills. The Board will then review the calendar of upcoming events and the monthly reimbursement report. After any old or new business will be reports on various items. The Board may then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, if necessary and will set their next meeting for Tuesday, November 1st at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm and the adjourn the meeting.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving traffic violations, a theft, property damage, and shoplifting. On Friday, September 23rd at 11:27 ikn the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem male for driving while having his license revoked. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Sunday, September 25th at 5:48 in the morning, an officer located a 20-year old Salem male at McDonald's restaurant who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant and was later released after paying all fines and court costs. Later that night at 9:47, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1100 block of East Third in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a 1995 Dutchman popup camper valued at $1,000. On Monday, September 26th at 5:37 in the afternoon, an officer located a 29-year old male of Doniphan at the Salem Treatment Center who had an active arrest warrant from the State of Missouri Probation and Parole.  He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition. Later that night at 9:11 a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The report led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for driving while being intoxicated and driving while his license suspended. He was issued two summons to appear in court and was released. On Tuesday, September 27th at 11:23 AM an officer was detailed to the Salem Apartments in the 1800 block of South Oak in reference to property damage. The report revealed a former tenant took property and did damage to an apartment valued at $10,000. Later that night at 10:50, an officer transported a 27-year old male of Ellington from Reynolds County to the Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. On Thursday, September 29th at 7:27 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Casey's General Store located on Highway 32 in reference to shoplifting. The report revealed a female suspect took merchandise valued at $19.28 and left the store without paying. Please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242 if you have any information regarding an ongoing investigation.

An accident occurred at 2:20 Friday afternoon in Texas County on US 63 about two miles north of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 GMC Envoy driven by 37-year old Daniel Ritter of St. James was traveling southbound when he struck a deer and traveled of the roadway, striking a ditch. Ritter suffered minor injuries and was taken by the Texas County ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The GMC suffered moderate damage and was secured at the scene.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) recently added 10 new agents. The conservation agent class of 2016 graduated during a special ceremony at the Department’s Runge Conservation Nature Center in Jefferson City on Wednesday, October 5th. During the graduation, the new agents were pinned with a badge by their families and also took the oath to become conservation agents. Two of the agents will be working in then area. They are Sarah Ettinger-Dietzel in Iron County and Zachary Swindle in Shannon County.

The Salem Football Tigers stayed fairly even with the Eagles of Mountain View-Liberty and at halftime trailed, 12-7 before the Eagles opened their offense in the second half and beat the Tigers, 45-7. Xavier Elwood scored the only touchdown for Salem on a 40-yard run in the second quarter. Salem is 4-4 on the year and they will host Cabool on Senior Night Friday night at the SHS Field.

Alex Petrangelo scored on a power plan early in the 3rd period Saturday night as the St. Louis Blues beat the Chicago Black Hawks, 2-1 in the final preseason game. Vladamir Tarasenko also scored for the Blues. The game may have been costly for the Blues as they lost goaltender Jake Allen who went down with an injury in the 1st period.

The Blues recalled goalie Jordan Binnington from the Chicago Wolves. Binnington, who was drafted by the Blues with their third round pick in 2011, played 51 minutes of preseason action this year, going 1-0-0 with a 1.18 goals-against average and a .958 save-percentage. The Blues face the Black Hawks in their season opener Wednesday night in Chicago. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Herbert T. Rosario of Rolla, age 90, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary with a Rosary Services at 5:00. Interment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Waynesville.

Funeral services for Koradine Rhinehart of Rolla, age 87, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the St. James Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time Wednesday. Interment will be in the Asher Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Asher Cemetery.

Funeral services for Jennifer Lynn (Adamick) Snider of Pleasant Hope, formerly of Salem, age 42, will be held Friday at 10:00 am at the Green Lawn North Funeral Home in Springfield, MO. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 t0 8:00 at the Green Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
