The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to report the sales tax receipts for the month at $77,007.31.  The receipts were up about $12,300 from October 2014; however the year-to-date figure is still down by $12,817.23, or a decrease of 1.85%. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that ditch work would continue on Dent County Road 5600, commonly referred to as the Turtle Loop. He went on to say that grading would be done on county roads 2490, 2430 and 2400, while brush would be cut on county road 6280.  Purcell added that two men would be hauling brown rock and one man would be screening it.  District II Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Road 4380, brush would be cut on county road 5260, materials would be added to county road 5225, and two men would be hauling brown rock.  Larson noted that he was pleased to report to the public that Dent County Road 4280 is now open, however in a couple of weeks it will be closed for a short time for some maintenance.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that on Monday he and Commissioner Purcell attended the MODOT meeting about the Sinking Creek Bridge replacement alternatives at the Shannon County Courthouse. Skiles said that the comment period on the proposed alternatives would be open until October 19th and he recommended that the Commissioners submit comments supporting Alternative 1 and suggest that MODOT place left turn lanes in where appropriate. The Commissioners felt that left turn lanes would be absolutely necessary with the additional traffic in the area once the new State Park is open. The Commissioners agreed on Skiles suggestion. Commissioner Purcell noted that the public could comment by calling Modot Assistant District Engineer Chris Rutledge at (417) 469-6239 or go online to www.modot.org/southeast/news_and_information/public_meetings  to make written comment.  Skiles went on to say that he would attend the TAC (Transportation Advisory Commnittee) meeting in St. James, plus the MRPC External Relations Committee and the MRPC Board Meetings. He noted that he would introduce Bob Parsons as the At Large Member for Agriculture and the newest member of the MRPC Board. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported she and Treasurer Williams balanced on all accounts for October and that the Commissioners had reviewed the reports. Skiles reminded everyone that the Courthouse would be closed Monday in observance of Columbus Day. Commissioner Purcell noted that he had received an application for Tourism Tax Funds that was very, very incomplete so he wanted to remind citizens that the detailed instructions for completion of the applications must be followed to the letter. At 10:00 Sheriff Rick Stallings and Deputy Joe Cochran were in for the opening of bids for a K-9. Curley opened the one bid received from Boulder Creek Performance K-9, LLC of St. James for $12,500, which included the dog, the handler training course and a 12 month health guarantee. Stallings and Cochran recommended that the Commission approve the purchase and they did 3-0. The funds to complete the purchase will come from the Law Enforcement Restitution Fund and Sheriff Stallings will present the information to the Fund Board of Trustees for final approval. At 11:00 Darrell Decker with the Health Insurance Consortium was in to update the Commission on rates and changes to the insurance plan for 2016.  Since the Courthouse is closed on Monday for Columbus Day the next meeting of the Commission will be next Thursday, October 15th at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
