The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated workers will be pulling ditches, then adding materials and do grading on Dent County Road 2460, while extensive ditch work will be done on Dent County Road 5600 in preparation of a work project agreement with the National Forest using Title 2 money. Purcell said a worker would be cutting brush on county roads 4220, 4230 and 4235, another worker would be hauling brown rock and yet another would be screening brown rock. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said materials would be added and work was being done on Dent County Road 4280. He said brush would be cut on county road 4380 and a man would be changing the tires on county truck #110. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he would be attending the MODOT open meeting in Eminence concerning the bridge over Sinkin Creek Monday afternoon. Skiles said the commission did receive the fax from the Oregon County Commissioners concerning land purchases in Oregon, Dent and Shannon counties being made from the Southeast Missouri Lead District Trust Funds. The commission approved drafting a letter asking for an extended comment period and sending it to DNR. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said the 2015 salary commission meeting would be held October 29th at 1:00 at the Judicial Building Courtroom. She also said she balanced with the collector and assessor on collections and abatements. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The 52nd Annual Rose Holland Trout Derby was held this past weekend at Montauk State Park that raised $11,997 for the American Heart Association. Even though it was cool weekend, 1,033 tags were sold Saturday and another 872 were sold on Sunday coming to 1,905 anglers who participated and had a good time. On Friday night the Current River Cruisers Car Show was held at Montauk and the top 5 winners were: a ’46 Chevy for Lyal & Ginny Chase of Salem; a ’55 Chevy pickup by John & Judy Warner of Bucyrus; a ’57 Chevy pickup driven by James Stevens of Salem; a ’65 Nova owned by Sam Cahill of Salem; and a ’56 Nomad owned by Ted & Rose Lewis of Catawissa. A 1967 Barracuda driven by Wendy Huff of Hillsboro drove the furthest distance of 132 miles. The Country Store, auction and the bake shop raised $3,000 toward the cause. The registrations, cash donations, the cruise-in, face painting and the sale of souvenir shirts provided for the balance of the total proceeds raised. A total of 63 out of 100 tagged fish released were caught. The Men’s Heaviest Stringer went to AJ Collier of Rolla with 6 pounds, 12 ounces, while the Women’s Heaviest Stringer went to Becky Wilfong of Park Hills with 2 pounds, 5 ounces. Nick Sharp of St. Louis had the Kid’s heaviest stringer at 7 pounds 7 ounces. The heaviest brown trout was caught by Tad Headrick of Salem and it came in at 4 pounds, six ounces. Catching a six-pound lunker was Bob Moreland of Salem while other lunkers caught by locals went to Robert Hood of Licking at 4 pounds, 11 ounces; Patrick Potts of Licking at 3 pounds, 4 ounces; and David Hatch of Licking at three pounds, one ounce. This year’s committee wants to send out a thank you to all the volunteers who worked the weekend event. And a special thank you to the Montauk Fire Department volunteers for operating and supervising the inflatables that the children enjoyed so much on Saturday.

On October 1st at 11:06 at night, the Missouri State Highway Patrol contacted the Dent County Sheriff’s Office to report a careless and imprudent driver. The highway patrol stated they received a call about a red passenger vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 72 into Dent County. The vehicle was reported as making bad passes and traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies were dispatched to the area. During the course of the investigation, a vehicle was observed exceeding the posted speed limit. As a result of the traffic violation, a traffic stop was conducted. During the course of the investigation, the driver was presumed to be intoxicated. A short investigation ensued and as a result of the investigation, 22-year old Jared J. Shorey of Salem, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, prior offender. Shorey was booked and released with two summons to appear in court.

The Missouri Office of Administration is now accepting management contract bids for the Licking License Office. Bids will be evaluated on areas such as expertise of the personnel proposed, methods proposed for performing the services and whether the individual or entity is a not-for-profit political subdivision, a Missouri Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), a Women Business Enterprise (WBE) or a Missouri Service-Disabled Veteran Enterprise. In fiscal year 2015, more than 18,000 transactions were conducted at the Licking office, generating $59,480 in agent processing fees. Prospective bidders may tour the Licking office from 4:45 to 5:45 PM on Wednesday, October 14th to gain perspective on how a license office is operated. Interested individuals and groups must submit their bids to operate the Licking License Office by October 28th. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers won their fourth consecutive SCA Conference title with a 10-5 win over the Mountain View Liberty Lady Eagles. Salem went 5-0 in the SCA to win the conference outright and improved their overall record to 15-10. The Lady Tigers were led by Kari Hatridge who went 4-4 and pitched the complete game win giving up only five hits while striking out nine. Camryn Pryor went 3-3 with a single, double, triple and sacrifice fly. She scored one run and drove in three to add to her single season record for Salem which now stands at 54. Payton Curley also had three RBI in the game while Trista Heavin also had three hits for Salem.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers are seeded third in Districts and they will face St. Clair Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 at Union. The cost of admission is $4.00 per person six years of age and older. The winner of the game will play Owensville on Thursday at 4:30 also at Union. KSMO will broadcast the game live Wednesday from Union as well as online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be at Cabool tonight starting at 6:00 with the JV contest followed by the varsity match.

The St. Louis Cardinals Division series will games will start at 5:45 Friday afternoon and at 4:37 Saturday afternoon against either Chicago or Pittsburgh who will play Wednesday.

A Celebration of Life for Raymond Loyd Gollhofer of Salem, age 90, will be held Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Wilson Family Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Love Pack Back Pack Program.
