The Dent County Sheriff's Department reports that Monday afternoon at approximately 3:45 in the afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff’s Office received a message that Kenneth Dylan Whitehead and Harley Hopper were found at a campground in Henderson County, North Carolina. Both Whitehead and Hopper have been transported to the Henderson County, North Carolina Sheriff’s Office. Whitehead is being held on a Dent County Child Kidnapping charge with a $250,000.00 cash only bond. Arrangements will be made to return Harley to her parents.

The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5610, 5615, 6640, 6665 and 6670 while brush would be cut on county roads 5480 and 5490. Purcell indicated a crew would be installing a new crossover pipe on Dent County Road 6630 at the Sandstone Lodge to help alleviate the water problem there. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3300, 3310 and 3313 while materials would be added and grading done on county roads 2120 and 5240. He also stated materials would be added to county road 2520. Thom Haines from the US Forest Service came in to update Commissioner Larson on an easement in District 2 he is working on. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated he attended the GRO meeting on Thursday at the Salem Community Center@ The Armory where Jump Start updated the groups on projects currently being worked on including the high school internship program, improve-ments on 4th Street and more. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said the deadline to register to vote would be Wednesday, October 12th until 5:00 at her office. Those who want to register to vote in the General Election must be 18 years of age, and bring in some sort of identification such as a drivers license, Social Security Card, etc. The Commissioners also will not be meeting on Monday, October 10th for Columbus Day. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The 53rd Annual Rose Holland Trout Derby was held this past weekend at Montauk State Park that raised $14,457 for the American Heart Association. Even though it was a cloudy weekend, 987 tags were sold Saturday and another 791 were sold on Sunday coming to 1,778 anglers who participated and had a good time. On Friday night the Current River Cruisers Car Show was held at Montauk and the top 5 winners were: a ’71 Chevelle SS for Jimmy Breeden; a ’56 Ford Crown Vic by Ron & Reba Fleming; a ’06 Dodge Daytona driven by Greg & Cathy Diehl; a ’64 AMC Rambler owned by Fred Hansel; and a ’71 VW Beetle driven by Harold Sesaite. The Men’s Heaviest Stringer went to Ken Nace of Festus with 8 pounds, 8 ounces, while the Women’s Heaviest Stringer went to Pamela Hatch of Licking with 1 pound, 15 ounces. Ryler Major of Salem had the Kid’s heaviest stringer at 5 pounds 14 ounces. The heaviest brown trout was caught by Tad Headrick of Salem and it came in at 3 pounds, four ounces. Catching a four-pound lunker was Dakota Utley of Licking while other lunkers caught by locals went to Tad Headrick of Salem at 4 pounds, 18 ounces and another trout at 3 pounds and four ounces; plus AJ Coolier of Rolla at three pounds, 13 ounces. This year’s committee wants to send out a big thank you to all those who attended the derby and the volunteers who worked the weekend event.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors has a vacancy for Director of Election District Four (4). The SMDH bylaws provide that a vacancy on the board shall be filled by appointment by the remaining Board of Directors. The appointee will hold office until the election to be held on April 4, 2017. Candidates for director of the hospital district shall be citizens of the United States, voters of the district of which they are a candidate, and who have resided within the state for one (1) year preceding the election and who are at least thirty (30) years of age. Persons interested in being considered by the Board of Directors shall complete and file a Request for Appointment form. The form may be obtained in person at the Administrative offices of the Salem Memorial District Hospital, Highway 72 in Salem, between the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, through Friday, October 14th. Applicants are expected to appear at the regular Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, October 18th at 6:00 PM for a brief interview. District boundary information may be obtained at the Administrative Office of the Salem Memorial District Hospital.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers blasted Mountain View-Liberty in their last regular season game, 12-1 and won the SCA Conference with a perfect 4-0 record and they are 20-4 on the year. The Lady Tigers are seeded 4th in District play and they will face the Owensville Dutch Girls Wednesday at 4:30 at the Sullivan High School Baseball Field at the Sullivan High School Campus. Admission is $5.00 for anyone six years of age and older. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Varsity Volleyball Tigers lost to Plato in two straight games Monday night: 18-25 and 15-25. The JV won both of their games: 25-12 and 25-20. The Lady Tigers will host the Houston Lady Tigers in SCA play tonight. The JV will start things out at 6:00 with the varsity match to follow. A raffle will be held tonight for a “Dig Pink” volleyball signed by the 2016 Salem Volleyball Lady Tigers. All money made from the raffle and any other donations will go to a local cancer support group, Project Win. Project Win provides assistance to any Dent County resident who has been diagnosed with any type of cancer regardless of income. They help with items such as wigs and lodging among other items. They help to find and connect people with other resources they don't provide themselves. Project Win has a support group that meets one night per month. Funeral services for Dale Duane “AJ” Rohrbach of Salem, age 61 will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. There will be no interment. Memorials may be made to the Assistance League at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in St. James.

Funeral services for David R. Parker of Licking, age 77, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Meredith Funeral Home in Grand Tower, Illinois. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower, Illinois. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Noel Mason of Oates, Missouri, age 72, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Lesterville. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Myers Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held Wednesday night at 7:00 at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Clora M. Hatcher of Joplin, age 81, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Barton Cemetery.
