The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6540, 6545, 6550, 6552 and 5150, while patch grading would be done on county roads 5490 and 5410. He stated materials would be added to county roads 5410 and 6200, plus brush would be cut on county road 5410. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that he had two grader operators out so grading would be done on Dent County Road 5240 only. He went on to say that brush was being cut on county roads 5260 and 4380, while materials would be added to county road 5260. Larson added that he had a man screening brown rock at the maintenance shed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that on Tuesday he attended the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Board of Directors meeting where 17 applications for waste recycling projects were reviewed. He said that 12 applications were partially or fully approved for a total of $183,000. Skiles added that the solid waste management district annual banquet would be November 29th. He also stated that he felt the Guys Night Out at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory was a great success. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that absentee ballots are ready for the November 8th General Election. Curley said that October 12th is the deadline to register to vote. She noted that on Wednesday she conducted a successful voter registration drive at the Salem High School and that the Commissioners were paying bills. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 6:17 Wednesday night in Crawford County on Sanke Road about two miles northeast of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Nissan Maxima driven by 38-year old Faith Brown of Steelville was traveling westbound. The Nissan crossed the center of the roadway and struck an eastbound 2003 Ford F150 driven by 62-year old William Skiles of Steelville. Skiles suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Air Evac to St. John’s Hospital in Creve Coeur. Everyone involved was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Nissan Maxima sustained extensive damage and the Ford F150 was totaled. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Miles and Sons Towing.

The City of Salem Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing on Monday, October 3rd at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 6:30 PM. The purpose of the hearing will be a request to rezone from residential to commercial the property located at 800 and 802 South Orchard Street, part of the Oak Park Addition, owned by Sellers Investment Properties, LLC. All interested parties will be given the opportunity to be heard on this matter, during the public hearing. Immediately following the closing of the public hearing will be a public meeting to discuss the results of the public hearing as well as there will be a reviewed use for a Daycare in residential R-1 at 100 South Hickory, owned by Veronica Lato. The public hearing and meeting of the City of Salem Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners is open to the public.

Gourd Painting will be held on Thursday, October 6th at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center on Thursday, October 6th from 6:00 to 9:00. Led by Sally Haines, all materials will be provided and there is a $25 charge.  For more information, call 729-0029 or 247-0279.

Lauren Boyd of Union threw a five inning perfect game as the Lady Wildcats shut out the Salem Lady Softball Tigers in the final home game of the 2016 fall season, 10-0. Boyd struck out nine of the 15 hitters she faced. Salem falls to 17-2 on the year and they will participate in the Rolla Invitational Tournament today and tomorrow.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers are seeded 4th in the Class 3, District 9 Tournament that will start on Wednesday at 4:30 in Sullivan. The Lady Tigers will face the 5th seed, Owensville Dutchgirls. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Football Tigers will be at Mountain Grove tonight to face the Panthers in SCA Play starting at 7:00. Salem enters the game with a 4-2 record while Mountain Grove is 5-1. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be in Licking for their tournament on Saturday. Salem enters the tournament with a 5-12 record. 

Yadier Molina hit a disputed double that drove in the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning Thursday night, sending the St. Louis Cardinals over the Cincinnati Reds 4-3. The Cardinals began the day one game behind San Francisco for the second NL wild-card spot.  Pittsburg plays the Cardinals tonight at 7:15.

Byron Buxton tripled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Kansas City Royals 7-6 on Thursday night. The Twins won for the first time in 10 games this season at Kauffman Stadium. Cleveland plays the Royals tonight at 7:15.

The Missouri Tigers will be on the road at LSU Saturday night at 6:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 4:30 with the pre-game show. Missouri is 2-2 on the year

The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday Night Football at 7:30. The Chiefs are 2-1 this year.

Funeral services for Charles Gary Cubbage of Salem will be this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Funeral services for Carolyn Fulliam of Steelville, age 76, will be held today at 2:00 at the Rivers of Life Fellowship Church in Steelville. Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

A visitation will be held for Anthony Nick Odom of Salem, age 56, today from 4:00-6:00 at Fox Funeral Home in Licking. There is no service.

Funeral services for James I. Huskey of Rolla, age 78, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held today from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Celebrate Recovery at the Ridgeview Christian Church.

Funeral services for Eva Maxine Asher of Desloge, age 93, will be held Saturday at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in Boss Cemetery.

Funeral services Vera Ilene Depriest of Salem, age 93, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dry Fork Cemetery.
