The Salem Police Department released a number of reports. At 1:11 in the afternoon on September 15th, an officer was sent to a traffic crash located at McCarthur and Franklin. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 33-year old male of Bunker on a fugitive warrant from Phelps County for driving while his license suspended and failing to maintain financial responsibility. He was issued summons to appear in court and incarcerated pending extradition. On Wednesday, September 16th at 9:25 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a Coleman 2000 watt generator valued at $500.00 from the shed of a residence on Forest Hill Drive. That night at 9:15, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of West Coffman in reference to a fight in progress. That investigation led to the arrest of a 30-year old Salem female for disorderly conduct. She was incarcerated and later issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that same night at 10:35 an officer was contacted at the station in to reference a theft. The investigation of the report revealed someone unknown took two bicycles valued at $250.00 from the yard of a residence in the 1100 block of West Third. On Thursday, September 17 at 1:50 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $14.27. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that same afternoon at 5:40, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for possession of opium and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. An accident happened Saturday night in Crawford County at 9:55 PM on Highway 19 about three miles north of Sligo. According to the Highway Patrol a 2009 Chevrolet Impala driven by 51-year old Sherry Dotson of Bixby was traveling southbound on Highway 19 crossing the centerline. The Chevrolet Impala struck a 2008 Mazda 3 driven by 22-year old Wesley Diehl of Hillsboro head on. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway. Dotson suffered minor injuries and was and transported by Salem ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Diehl suffered minor injuries and was transported by Steelville ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. A passenger in the Mazda 3, 21-year old Julia Diehl suffered serious injuries and was transported by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. Everyone involved was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Impala and the Mazda 3 were both totaled and removed from the scene by Miles & Sons.

An accident occurred at 4:10 Saturday afternoon in Phelps County on Highway B about eight miles north of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Harley Davidson driven by 59-year old Stewart Pope of St. James was traveling southbound on Highway B. The Harley ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Pope suffered moderate injuries and was flown to Columbia University Hospital by Staff of Life helicopter. A passenger, 51-year old Jennie Pope suffered minor injuries and was taken by the St. James ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Everyone involved was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Harley Davidson sustained extensive damage and was towed by Spurgeon’s Towing.

An accident occurred at 4:20 Monday afternoon in Dent County on Dent County Road 6633 about a mile west of Montauk. According to the highway patrol report, a 2012 Ford Escape driven by 47-year old Eric Wall of Licking was traveling southbound. Wall lost control of the Ford Escape and went off the right side of the roadway and then struck a tree. Wall suffered minor injuries and was transported by the Salem ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Escape sustained extensive damage and was driven from the scene. 

The University of Missouri Extension will be hosting Fall Field Day at the MU Wurdack Farm near Cook Station this Friday from 8:30 am to noon. Topics will include using cover crops to establish Novel Endophtye tall fescue, the value of cover crops as forage, dealing with weeds in your pasture and tall fescue toxicosis, cow genetics and productivity. Other topics to be covered are the value of different hay storage methods, Soil health what is it and how is it assessed, Oak tree death in the Ozark Forest: Patterns and Potential causes, and silvopasture: managing timber, forage and livestock. A free lunch will be served at noon. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers beat St. Clair Monday by the score of 15-3 in 5 innings. Salem scored four runs in the first and second innings to take an 8-0 lead and cruised from there for the 15-3 win. Payton Curley went 4 for 4 with four runs and an RBI, while Camryn Pryor and Shelby Carr each picked up four RBI for the Tigers who are now 12-7 on the year. The Lady Tigers will be in action again Thursday versus another district opponent when they face the Union Lady Wildcats in Union. Salem will then play in the Rolla Tournament Friday and Saturday. Salem will face Marshfield and Norwood in pool play Friday with a tournament on Saturday.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers lost to the Lady Bulldogs of Rolla ion two straight games Tuesday night at the SHS gym. Salem lost 25-18 in the first game, then fell 25-11 in the second game. The Lady Volleyball Tigers will be in Licking Saturday for a tournament.

The St. Louis Cardinal game with Pittsburgh scheduled for Tuesday night was postponed due to inclement weather and has been scheduled as a day-night doubleheader today. The first game will start at 12:35 with an 11:40 pre-game show on KSMO Radio and the second game will begin at 6:05 with a 5:10 pre-game show on KSMO Radio.

Eric Hosmer and Kendrys Morales homered and Johnny Cueto threw six quality innings, but the Kansas City Royals lost to the Chicago White Sox 4-2 on Tuesday night. The Royals, who have lost four of their last five, fell behind 3-0 after Adam Eaton drove a two-run homer into the bullpen in right field off Cueto (10-13) in the fifth inning. The Royals play Chicago tonight at 7:10.
