The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done if the grader gets repaired on Dent County Roads 5080, 6633 and 6670. Brush is going to be cut on county roads 2400 and 6280 and a man went to get the ultimate pavement material for the patching of chip and seal in the Adams Subdivision. Purcell also said he would be meeting with an engineer from Benton and Associates in regard to the FLAP project on county road 6670, better know as the Tan Vat Hill Road. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2150, 2210 and 4290. He said one man was servicing county truck #122 and another man went to get oil for chip and seal repair. He also said a man would be working to open the ends of some of the cross over pipes that have collapsed or been crushed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he would be attending the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Executive Board meeting Tuesday to determine the awards for the waste reduction and recycling grants. They will also review the year-to-date budget and the financial statements. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone the last day to register to vote for the General Election would be October 12th and absentee ballots are not yet here but should be Wednesday or Thursday. Call her office for more information. She also said she was elected as chairperson for the Missouri Clerk’s South Central Region. Mark Weaver and Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas were in attendance to ask the commissioners if they had any issues with removing the establishing filing districts within the hospital district. This would allow anyone from any filing district to file when a board position at the hospital would be come available instead of it being from an individual filing district. Each director is elected for a term of six years. The commissioners did not have a problem with the hospital removing the individual filing districts. The SMDH District also goes into Iron, Shannon and Crawford counties and Weaver and Lucas will have to meet with the commissioners as well for their approval. The next meeting will be Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident happened in Texas County on Highway 17 about five miles north of Mountain View Sunday evening at 10:00. According to the highway patrol, a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven northbound by 38-year old James Hawkins of Licking traveled off the roadway causing the Silverado to overturn. Hawkins suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Mercy Hospital in Mountain View by ambulance. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The Silverado had extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Gentlemen Jim’s Towing.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control reports the arrest of 33-year old Michael D. Shimon of Rolla, for felony promoting child pornography and felony possession of child pornography. Shimon was arrested on September 23rd after a lengthy investigation conducted by members of the Division of Drug and Crime Control’s Digital Forensics Investigative Unit. On Friday, investigators served a search warrant at Shimon’s residence located on the 1700 block of North Walnut Street, Rolla. As a result of the search, investigators located child pornography and electronic equipment used to commit the crime. Shimon was arrested and transported to the Phelps County Jail. The Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office formally charged Shimon with felony promoting child pornography 1st degree and felony possession of child pornography. Shimon is being held with a $150,000 bond. The Patrol was assisted by officers of the Rolla Police Department. Captain Eric T. Olson, director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control, encourages Internet users to promptly report to the Patrol or local law enforcement anyone who attempts to engage in unwanted, inappropriate, or sexualized communications with children. This arrest is mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting starting at 6:00 pm tonight. After a review of the minutes from the August 16th tax hearing and regular meeting, Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus will update the Board with the summary of operations and statistics reports for August followed by Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks’ report that will include the HCAHPS report card. Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas will provide the Board with a report on the marketing and community activities followed by a report on the hospital foundation before updating them on the auxiliary activities and providing an update on legislative issues. He will also discuss the strategic planning update and update the board on the Ozark Independent Health Alliance (OIHA). In old business, the board will go over the annual bylaw review for any updates and discuss the hospital district issue. In new business, the Board will address purchases made for the hospital and talk about the Long-Term Care annual survey. The Board may vote to go into closed session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

Bekah Kirker hit a 4th inning two-run homer to clinch a 15-0 win over St. Clair for the Salem Lady Softball Tigers improving their record to 17-1. Kirsten Strebe finished 3-3 with a triple, a three run homer and single and 4 RBI. Salem will host Union Thursday in their final regular season home game at 4:30.

Joey Votto and Adam Duvall hit two of the Cincinnati's four homers as the Reds routed the St. Louis Cardinals 15-2 on Monday night. Reds starter Tim Adleman (3-4) retired the first 10 Cardinals he faced and went a career-long seven innings. It was his first win since Aug. 19. The Reds improved to 6-4 in their last 10 games against the Cardinals. The St. Louis Cardinals play the Cincinnati Reds tonight at 7:15. You can hear the game on KSMO radio.

The Kansas City Royals were off Monday and they will be at Minnesota tonight.

The St. Louis Blues lost to Dallas 3-1 in pre-season play at Dallas Monday night. Kevin Shattenkirk had the only goal for the Blues. The Blues will host Dallas Friday night in pre-season play.

Graveside services for Michael Fyke Brake of Rolla, age 79, will be held today at 2:00 at the New Harmony Cemetery. Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem. Memorials may be made to the DCAWS.

Funeral services for Charles Gary Cubbage of Salem will be Friday at 11:00 am at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Chapel with a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post # 99.
