On Saturday, September 24th an accident occurred at 4:45 in the early morning on Highway 32 about 13 miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Buick Century driven by 28-year old Rohny Hall of Houston, was traveling westbound when the Buick traveled off the roadway and struck a tree. Hall suffered serious injuries and was transported by Air-Evac to Cox Medical Center in Springfield. The Buick was totaled and towed by Whitakers in Salem. Hall was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident occurred at 4:14 Thursday afternoon in Texas County at Highway 63 and Highway BB about three miles south of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 2006 Ford Mustang driven northbound by 59-year old Sheryl Friend of Licking turned in front of a 2003 Chevrolet Impala driven by southbound by 59-year old Trease Ellison of St. Louis. Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken by personal vehicles to the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. Everyone involved was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Impala sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene by Jay’s Towing of Houston.

Route AC in Dent and Reynolds Counties will be reduced to one lane while Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs. This section of road is located from Route 32 in Dent County to end of state maintenance in Reynolds County. Weather permitting the work will take place today through Thursday, September 29th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. The work zone will be marked with signs.  Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area. The Dent County Extension Council will hold a meeting today at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory beginning at 5:30 PM. There are two timely topics to be discussed at the meeting this month. One of the topics is this year’s recipient(s) of the Leader’s Honor Roll. All members are encouraged to think about possible nominations as this needs to be finalized at the meeting.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers won the Potosi Tournament this past weekend by winning all four games and allowing only three runs in the entire tournament. Salem won Friday over Festus, 10-1 and Potosi, 8-2; then on Saturday shutout Sikeston, 14-0 and Fredricktown, 8-0. The Lady Tigers are now 16-1 on the year and they will host the St. Clair Bulldogs today at 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. The game will be recorded for playback later on Fidelity Local 6.

Xavier Elwood scored three rushing touchdowns and added one more TD on a long pass play as the Salem Tigers rallied to beat the Willow Springs Bears, 33-24 Friday night. Elwood finished with 99 yards rushing while Zac Eplin ended the game with 149 yards rushing and completed 4-14 passing with 3 TD passes. Salem trailed 12-0 in the game in the 1st quarter, 18-14 at halftime and 24-20 early in the 4th quarter. Salem is now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the SCA. The Tigers will travel to Mountain Grove Friday night.   

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers lost at Ava Thursday night in two straight games, 25-20 and 25-18. The Lady Tigers fall to 4-12 on the year with the loss and they will host Bunker tonight at 6:00 at the Salem High School Gym. The JV also lost in two straight at Ava by the scores of 27-25 and 25-18.

Drew Lock threw a school record-tying five touchdown passes, and Missouri shattered its school scoring record Saturday, dismantling Delaware State 79-0. The previous record of 69 points has occurred three times, most recently on Sept. 17, 2011, when the Tigers shut out Western Illinois. The Tigers (2-2, 0-1 SEC)) led 58-0 at halftime. Lock completed 26 of 36 pass attempts for 402 yards. J'Mon Moore had eight catches for 114 yards and four touchdowns, tying the school record for receiving TD’s. Damarea Crockett led the Tigers in rushing with 12 carries for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Missouri will be at LSU this Saturday.

The Chicago Cubs hurt St. Louis’ wild-card chances with 3-1 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday night. The Cardinals lost for the third time in four games, wasting a chance to improve their playoff positioning. The Cincinnati Reds will be in St. Louis to play at 7:15 on KSMO after Lady Tiger Softball.

Salvador Perez homered to cap a cycle by Kansas City's first four batters of the game, and the Royals went deep three more times to beat Detroit 12-9 on Sunday. The defending World Series champions avoided elimination from this year's postseason race with the win. Kansas City started the game with a single, a triple and a double before Perez's two-run homer made it 4-0. The Royals are off today.

The Kansas City Chiefs returned two turnovers for touchdowns, intercepted three passes in the end zone and forced eight turnovers total in a 24-3 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. Marcus Peters had two of the picks for the Chiefs (2-1), including the first of four off the Jets' Ryan Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter. Alex Smith was 25 of 33 for 237 yards and a touchdown for Kansas City.

The St. Louis Blues scored four 3rd period goals to break a 3-3 tie and beat Columbus in their first pre-season game, 7-3 with split squads. Kenny Agostino had two goals and two assists for St. Louis as they will play Dallas tonight.

Funeral services for Homer Ward “Skip” Frago, III, age 53, of Bixby will be today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until 1:00 prior to the service. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direct of the Wilson Mortuary of Viburnum.

Graveside services for Michael Fyke Brake of Rolla, age 79, will be Tuesday at 2:00 at the New Harmony Cemetary. Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem. Memorials may be made to the DCAWS.

Funeral services for Charles Gary Cubbage of Salem will be Friday at 11:00 am at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Chapel with a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post # 99.
