The Dent County Commission met for their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to report that the CART receipts for September 2015 came in at $60,482.60. The year-to-date CART receipts are up $22,309.74 over last year or about 4.649%. In road reports, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done as well as material would be hauled to Dent County Road 2480 and grading only would be done on county roads 4080 and 5600. He went on to say that patching of chip and seal would take place on Dent County Roads 4170 and 6240 as well as various other locations. He also said maintenance is being performed on dump truck #115. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done and materials will be hauled to Dent County Road 3180 while grading only would be done on Dent County Roads 2050, 2060, 4040 and 4300. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District (ORSWMD) Executive Board meeting on Tuesday. There were a total of 16 recycling grants submitted totaling $336,000. The ORSWMD only has funds totaling $186,000 for grants. Skiles reported that 11 of the 16 grants submitted were approved. There was one approved fully funded grant for the University of Missouri Extension to continue composting at numerous locations including Green Forest R-2. Skiles went on to say that he wanted to clarify any misconceptions about the proposed Dent County Jail & Sheriff’s Office. Although the Dent County Commission is in an agreement for Architectural & Engineering Services with the Goldberg Group Architects, PC, this is still just a preliminary phase. Phase I includes schematic site plans, floor plans, exterior renderings & elevations, but this is just a planning stage. Skiles wanted to make clear that nothing will be done other than the planning, without the voters having decided to proceed forward. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that new voter ID cards will be mailed out by the end of September. The post cards will be white in color and voters are encouraged to check and double check the information such as your name, address and make sure on the card that your voter district is also correct on the post cards. If anything has changed or is wrong, or you do not receive a white voter ID post card by October 15th, be sure and contact the Dent County Clerk’s office. Either stop by the Clerk’s office in the Courthouse or call the Clerk’s office at 729-4144. Curley went to say that she received information from Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder’s office. Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder is seeking nominations for the Veterans Service Award. The Veterans Service Award is an opportunity to highlight volunteerism by Missouri’s veterans. Individuals must have served or be serving in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and volunteer at least 25 hours per year in their community. The deadline for nominations is October 31, 2015. For more information go to their website at http://ltgov.mo.gov or call their office at (573) 751-4227. The Salem Police Department will be participating in the program from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Salem Police Department at 500 North Jackson Street. Anyone may drop off unused, out of date, unwanted/unneeded drugs that they want disposed of. The drugs will be disposed of safely by professionals in an environmentally friendly manner. The Dent County Sheriff's Department has received a medication disposal box. This allows the public to stop by anytime to drop off any unused medication. The disposal box gives the community the opportunity to dispose of medication at any time without needing to wait. This will get the medication out of your homes when it is not needed. Please do not drop any biohazard materials or syringes. The box is located in the lobby at the Dent County Sheriff's Office at 112 East 5th Street and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
