The Salem Police Department released their reports involving property damage, a fight in progress, a fraudulent deposit, and a traffic crash. Friday morning, September 11th at 8:24, an officer was dispatched to the Salem High School in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed a 16-year old male juvenile of Salem, had assaulted a 15-year old male juvenile of Salem. He was taken into custody and was later released to a parent. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. On Saturday morning, September 12th at 1:45, an officer located a 51-year old Salem male in the 700 block of South Pershing who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and released to the Dent County Sheriffs Department. On Sunday morning, September 13th at 6:55, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report revealed someone unknown put silly string on three different vehicles. Later that morning at 9:39, an officer was sent to the 1200 block of Mildred in reference to a fight in progress. That call led to the detention of two 16-year old female juveniles both of Salem for fighting in public.The two females were released to their parents and the report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. On Monday morning, September 14th at 9:38, an officer transported a 28-year old Salem male from Washington Police Department in Washington, Missouri to the Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. That same morning at 10:15, an officer was detailed to Progressive Ozark Bank in reference to a fraudulent deposit. That investigation revealed a person or persons who are unknown made a fraudulent deposit of $1,996.69 at the ATM and a female suspect then attempted to withdraw money on the account. Later that day afternoon at 12:54, an officer was dispatched to Crowley's Home Works in reference to damage to private property. The investigation of the report revealed someone unknown caused approximately $100.00 in damage to the front of the building. Later that afternoon at 3:58, an officer located a 37-year old Salem female in the 100 block of West Center who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. She was taken into custody on the warrant and was released to the Dent County Sheriffs Department. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage, fraudulent deposit or damage to private property reports, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Dent County Soil & Water Conservation District will hold their annual meeting this Saturday at the Indian Trail Archery on Highway 19 North in Salem. Registration will begin at 5:00 pm and Missouri Hick BBQ will provide the meal. Those planning to attend need to RSVP by TODAY by calling 729-4442.

The University of Missouri Extension is offering their “Cooking Matters at the Store” program at the Country Mart in Salem again on Monday, September 28th and there are five open spots available. Participants can choose between two times frames. One tour will be held from 10:00 AM to noon and the other tour will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The program is free, but registration is required. All openings are filled on a first come, first served basis. This program is a guided grocery store tour to help families buy healthy, affordable food. Participants will learn how to buy fruits, and vegetables on a budget, compare unit prices to find bargains, read and compare food labels, identify whole grains and stick to a budget. At the conclusion of the tour, participants will receive a $10 gift card to purchase healthy items, a free workbook with tasty recipes and handy tips on buying healthy, low-cost foods, and a free reusable grocery bag. The 5th Annual “Girls’ Night Out, Fun, Food and Fitness” will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday night at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory at 1200 West Rolla Road in Salem. Attendees will experience Shopping with Unique Vendors, Prize Giveaways, FREE Samples, Door Prizes, Massages, Food Samples and many other exciting items. Participating exhibitors will bring unique products and services of interest to women. Over 30 vendors will display and sell their products and services. Bring your girlfriends for an evening of pampering, shopping and eating. There is a $5.00 admission fee and admission is limited to all women and girls 12 years of age and older. Bring in non-perishable canned foods; toiletry items; toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, Ziploc Bags, baby formula, journals, crayons, coloring books, stamps, Clorox Wipes, Lysol Spray, and assorted pet food for a chance to win a $300 Amazon Gift Card, $150 Amazon Gift Card or a $50 Amazon Gift Card. Payton Curley hit a two-run homer and Kari Hatridge had a couple of doubles as the Lady Softball Tigers beat Willow Springs in SCA play, 8-2 Tuesday afternoon. Shelby Carr got the win going seven innings giving up just two runs and striking out 11. Salem is now 10-7 on the year and 3-0 in the SCA. Salem will be at Thayer Thursday at 4:30.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Varsity Tigers lost in SCA play at Mountain Grove last Thursday in two straight games, 9-25 and 12-25. The JV over the weekend went 1-3 in the Republic Tournament getting a win over Forsythe. On Monday, the Lady Varsity Tigers lost to St. Clair by the scores of 13-25 and 15-25.

John Lackey pitched seven strong innings, rookie Tommy Pham continued his productive hitting and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 Tuesday night. Tommy Pham hit a sacrifice fly to deep center in the seventh that scored Tony Cruz and broke a 1-all tie. Pham drove in the Cardinals' first run with a third-inning double that brought in Matt Carpenter, who doubled with one out. The Cardinals will finish their set with Cincinnati tonight at 7:15 on KSMO Radio.

Robinson Cano homered twice and drove in four runs and Hisashi Iwakuma struck out a season-high 10 as the Seattle Mariners romped past the slumping Kansas City Royals, 11-2 Tuesday night. The Royals play Seattle tonight at 7:10.

Funeral services for Donald Poskin of St. James, age 85, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery with Military Honors at the Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. James Kiwanis Backpack Program or the St. James United Methodist Church.
