At the Dent County Health Center Board of Trustees meeting Monday afternoon, the Board approved the hiring of Kendra Mobray, RN as Administrator of the Health Center effective immediately. Former Administrator Jane Jadwin had announced her retirement at the last meeting for this month. The Health Center is now able to provide adult vaccines and bill private insurance for their patients. These vaccines include flu vaccine, pneumonia, Tdap, Meningitis, and Zostavax (shingles). In order to provide the shingles and pneumonia vaccines, they must have a doctor’s order from your physician. They will provide vaccines daily from 8 to 4 on a walk-in basis. For more information and a complete listing of available vaccines, please call 729-3106 during office hours. The Health Center will again be providing employee health insurance through Missouri Consolidated for 2017. The selection of offerings has been completed and open enrollment will begin in October for participating employees. In new business, the Health Department is waiting on receipt of the new contract for the Million Hearts Project from Department of Health for the coming year. The Health Center has also submitted the local agency plan for their WIC contract year that begins in October to the Department of Health for approval. The Health Center also received a report that in the last month they have followed up on several disease reports including food borne illness, water borne illness and Hepatitis C. They will also continue to update local medical providers as information is received from the Department of Health as to prevention and testing for the ZIKA virus. The next regular board meeting date of the Dent County Health Center Board of Trustees was set for Monday, October 17th, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting was then adjourned.

The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Richard Labrash with the American Legion was in to discuss the results for the outreach program for the veteran petition drive. There were 5,700 signatures collected for a full time VA clinic in the physician building at the Salem Memorial District Hospital location. He wanted to thank those businesses, the commission and the Salem Initiative as well as those who took the time to sign that petition. Dent County Fire Chief Brad Nash came in to discuss that the Fire District is putting in for a USDA Rural Development Grant/Loan to fix the roof, the bathroom and for parking lot repairs. The MRPC will be writing the grant and the fire district would pay for the grant writing, but Dent County would need to be the sponsor on that grant. The commission wanted more information from Kelly at the MRPC before making a decision. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5390, 5400, 6303, 6305, 6400 and 6495. If time permitted, ditch work would be done on county road 6190 and brush was going to be cut on county road 5400. Purcell went on to report two trucks would be hauling brown rock. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said they would have workers checking roads in northern Dent County as there was as much as three inches of rain the fell on Wednesday evening. Otherwise, he said grading would be done on Dent County Road 2140, brush would be cut on county roads 4290 and 4300 and materials would be added to Dent County Road 2210. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said invitations would be going out soon for the annual MRPC Awards dinner that will be held in October in Belle. He said at the MRPC meeting last Thursday, they identified their state and federal legislative priorites and they will be narrowed down for the visit in December by the state and federal offices holders. He also recommended allowing the Salem R-80 Alumni Association to use the courthouse lawn for events this Saturday if needed and the Commissioners all approved. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley  said the first day to absentee vote will be September 27th for the General Election and the last day to register to vote will be October 12th. Leo Sanders, the Leo Sanders, the Presiding Commissioner from Crawford County, wanted to discuss budgeting with the commissioners as Crawford County is currently in a deficit budget situation. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

On Thursday, September 15th at 9:00 in the morning an accident occurred on private property on Dent County Road 2580 about 10 miles west of Salem. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Honda Rancher TRX 350 4-wheeler owned by 58-year old David Stotler of Salem failed to negotiate a hill and overturned, ejecting the driver. Stotler suffered serious injuries and was transported by Air Ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield. The 4-wheeler sustained minor damage and was left at the residence.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers defeated the Dora Lady Falcons Thursday night, 12-7. Salem was led by Shelby Carr who went 4-4 with two RBI, Camryn Pryor who went 3-4 with an RBI. Kirsten Strebe hit a two-run homer for Salem who improved to 10-1 on the year.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers game against Waynesville today at 4:30 at the Salem City Park Armory Field has been cancelled

The Salem Football Tigers will host the Ava Bears tonight at 7:00 at the SHS Field. Salem is 3-1 on the year and 1-1 in the SCA. You can hear the game on KSMO and on ksmoradio.com.

Johnny Cueto pitched a five-hitter and retired his final 17 batters, and the San Francisco Giants earned a 6-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night. The Cards and Giants play tonight at 9:15 on KSMO Radio.

Stephen Vogt drove in five runs, Ryon Healy hit a mammoth three-run homer and the Oakland Athletics routed the Kansas City Royals 14-5 Thursday to complete their four game sweep of the Royals. Kansas City will host the Chicago White Sox this weekend.

Funeral services for Howard Marvin Happel of Salem, age 87, will be held today at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Grace Community Church Youth Program.

Graveside services for Maxine Dobbs Bowls of O’Fallon, Illinois, age 88, will be held today at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem.

Funeral services for Lois May Braidlow of Rolla, age 81, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Anutt Cemetery or to the Anutt School.

Funeral services for Alma Jean Brown of Steelville, age 91, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
